I was invited to be part of a summer solstice celebration this weekend. The host made one thing very clear: participation in the sound bath was mandatory. No opt-outs.

Only a few guests had even heard of a sound bath and let’s just say many were visibly skeptical. You could feel the discomfort. One guy even heckled. Loudly.

But after a little friendly convincing, I got everyone to simply lay down in the grass. Warm sun on their faces. Blue, cloudless sky above. All anyone had to do was just relax. Simple enough, right?

Within minutes, even the heckler had quieted. As I walked among the group, floating bowls above them, I started to see it, shoulders softening, smiles forming, long sighs of contentment.

Sometimes, you don’t need to believe in anything for something to work. You just have to give yourself an opportunity to try.

My goal with singing bowl sound treatments is to create a wellness experience that helps you relax and feel good. I see singing bowls as a way to support your overall well-being – mind, body, and spirit. Think of it like a massage or yoga class.

Unless I it's something I've experienced myself, I won't make any crazy promises about what singing bowls can do, but lots of people find them helpful for easing stress and anxiety. Everyone's experience is different, so the most important thing is if you find them helpful for you.

When I buy a new singing bowl, it's important to me that the bowl "speaks" to me. When I select a bowl, I need to know how it sounds, how it feels in my hands, how long the sound lasts and importantly, where it came from. Himalayan or Tibetan Singing Bowls are works of art. The ones that I purchase are handmade and if you watch the labor and skill that goes into the process to create a bowl, I feel it's incredibly important to honor that skill and craftsmanship when I play them.

I have built a great relationship with a supplier in Nepal, where I purchase my bowls. We use WhatsApp to chat about what I am looking for and he will send me videos and recordings of bowls to select the right ones for me. He impressed upon me the importance of owning bowls that are meant to be mine, so he spends an incredible amount of time and care making sure the bowls are perfect, are sent with tremendous care and available at a fair price. DM me if you are interested in more information about purchasing your bowls directly from Nepal.

Are you struggling to get your bowl to sing? Before you assume it's the bowl or worse, you....go to and order yourself a Benjamin Irons Signature Leather Wand created by .

Almost instantly upon being struck, this wand will produce the most rich, developed sound from any of my bowls without that awful chatter that often comes from my traditional pujas. When I'm teaching someone how to make a bowl sing, using this wand, a beginner can get the bowl humming easily. And, it's comfortable to hold during a long session. Order one. You won't regret it.

When I'm bored and doom scrolling, I want to see beautiful art, gorgeous flowers, bright colors that bring me joy. A good feed scroll is like an instant caffeine hit for me in the middle of a boring meeting.

That's why my content in this small corner of social isn't all about serene music and soothing images. I believe in a joyful approach to well-being. Because let's be honest, true wellness isn't about forcing yourself to be calm all the time. It's about embracing all of life's experiences, the good, the bad, and the downright hilarious.

Before starting every sound bath session, I ask who has never experienced a sound bath before. I'll generally see about a third to half the group sheepishly raise their hands, likely terrified I'm going to call on them for some woowoo ceremony.

The reason I ask this question is first, so I know how in depth to explain what the group can expect in the session but equally important, I take the time to tell everyone to be proud of themselves for trying something new. I acknowledge that walking into a sound bath (or anywhere new for that matter) can be an intimidating experience for a lot of people. It takes courage to step outside of your comfort zone and explore the unknown. And personal growth often happens when we challenge ourselves and try something different. DM me about upcoming opportunities to join me in a group session.

I learned my practice in this space from a wonderful woman from Nepal who implored in me two important lessons….

1. Only play the bowls when you are in the right mindset. If you are not in a good mood, the bowls will know and will pass that energy onto other people.

2. Before you start playing, smile into your bowl and do the same when you are finished.

Be kind, spread kindness

I've used sound therapy on some seriously stressed-out people. You know, the type who can't shut their minds off, think they're invincible to relaxation, but are desperate to chill out for five minutes.

And within ten minutes, these same people are practically melting into the floor. They're totally zoned out, deeply relaxed. It's like magic.

How does it work? Well, the idea is that the sustained tones and vibrations of my Himalayan singing bowls can shift your brainwaves from that super-active "go-go-go" mode to a much calmer state.

I know the science isn't super solid yet, but I've seen it happen enough to know it works.
