Grateful for for dialing in my training with a focus on eccentric strength—it made all the difference descending 1000 feet through the Black Forest in Germany.

Even though we’ve shifted to a virtual model, Healthspan’s core principles remain the same. Today marks the birthday of my beloved mother-in-law, who passed away six months ago. She holds a special place in my heart as one of my earliest patients, introducing me to her son, my husband. Her life was a testament to Healthspan living and cherishing every moment. Despite her physical departure at the age of 96, her love and wisdom continue to inspire us, making her a timeless role model. 💛

Why do the French live longer than Americans? 85.7 y/o F, 80 M vs 79.1 F, 73.2 M.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in France and US. Cancer is next.

In France the prevalence of lung cancer is quite high.
36% of French adults are smokers, the highest rate in Europe.

Some explanations for their longevity:
1. Although their is a great emphasis on food, they seldom snack. They will have 3 balanced meals but one (lunch) is the largest meal. The food proportions are much smaller than in the US.
2. France has universal healthcare, providing access to affordable healthcare to all citizens.
3. Americans are obsessed with physical activity as much as they are with inactivity. It’s not common to go to the gym to workout as it is in the US which is then followed by (which I believe is our problem) hours of sitting. It is difficult to own a car in Paris. Walking or biking are preferred and the French are generally moving all day.
4. The French are very social. They enjoy spending time with friends and family. Americans are much more individualistic.
