You may have heard about dermatologists loving sunscreens that are only available in European and Asian countries.
This is because these countries have UV filters available in sunscreens that block more UV, specifically in the UVA range (considered the aging and cancer causing rays).
These active ingredients are not yet approved for use in the US.
Did you know, no new sunscreen ingredients have been approved by the FDA since 1999?!?
It’s time to join the present.
Ensuring safety is important, and can be achieved in an efficient manner.
SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act. Sign the Letter of Support. Take Action Today!
Team up with the Skin Cancer Foundation to advocate for access to new sunscreen options to prevent skin cancer and save lives. Sign the letter of support for the SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act and contact your legislator as soon as possible.
As skin cancer rates continue to rise across the U.S., sunscreen innovation has been at a standstill for decades. With new, advanced sunscreen ingredients available in other markets around the world, status quo is NOT acceptable for the American public. ‼️
If passed, the SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act will:
* Ensure that the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) quickly approves new sunscreen ingredients, giving the public greater access to new and advanced ingredients to protect their skin and lower skin cancer risk.
* Reduce the FDA’s reliance on animal testing data, requiring the agency to establish clearer, more flexible standards for evaluating sunscreen ingredients. 🧴
Urgent Timing: This bill can go to committee for a vote during the week of July 21, and we need members to VOTE YES. If it gets through, it will proceed to the House of Representatives for a full vote.
What You Can Do Now: Sign the letter of support, urge your legislator to vote YES and get tools to spread the word!
