What does a dermatologist do
when they have a pimple?

Evaluate recent habits
-did I sweat a bunch and delay cleanse?
-am I using too heavy a moisturizer?
-did I sweat in makeup?
-multiple sunscreen applications?

Pop on a pimple patch overnight
-I love non-medicated hydrocolloid patches

Stay consistent with actives
-don’t go overboard, just stay consistent
-don’t spot treat (it doesn’t help prevent, you just trade a pimple for a dry peely spot)

Never ever ever PICK!
See your derm for an extraction or injection

Had a blast at Career Day

I love sharing about my career as a dermatologist.

These young women wanted to know all about why I became a derm, and how to get there themselves.

When I talk about the 12 years of school and training it takes after high school to become a board-certified derm, many had the same reaction…that’s a lot of school!

But if you love it, there’s nothing you’d rather do.

We also talked about work/life balance, that I got married in medical school and had my first baby in residency. Meaning life doesn’t have to stop just because you’re doctoring!

So many intelligent questions out of these young ladies, the future looks bright!
