Behind The Scenes: Mohs Micrographic Surgery for treatment of a Squamous Cell Carcinoma ‼️

Squamous Cell Carcinoma is the second most common type of skin cancer. When located on cosmetically sensitive areas, squamous cell carcinomas can be treated using a process called Mohs Micrographic Surgery.

The cancer is marked out and removed with a narrow margin of surrounding healthy skin. Both the excised tissue and surrounding skin are scored with hash marks to allow for the precise mapping of any residual cancer.

The excised tissue is then taken to the lab where it is processed and put onto slides. These slides are subsequently reviewed by the Mohs Micrographic Surgeon to evaluate for any remaining cancer cells. The areas where residual cancer is seen are marked on the Mohs Map to guide the surgeon as to where more tissue needs to be removed. This layer-by-layer process continues until the surgeon confirms no more cancer cells remain.

The subsequent defect is repaired in a way that preserves the patient’s functional and cosmetic anatomy.

This video was shared with our fantastic patient’s consent. We are so happy he is cancer-free & can’t wait to see how incredible he looks at suture removal once the swelling subsides!

An eye opening experience! 👀 Our beautiful patient felt her former appearance was weighing her down and not a reflection of her vibrant, high-energy personality.

A customized treatment plan, which included:

-Upper blepharoplasty
-Non-surgical brow lift
-Mid-face rejuvenation with HA fillers
-Laser genesis treatments (x2)

Has left her looking refreshed and with a youthful glow at 2-months out.
