Update:
Following up on my last correspondence, I was approved for liver transplant and had the procedure on June 19th. On that day, my wife (who was the donor), and I were in adjacent operating rooms. They took out 2/3 of her liver and transplanted it in me. Thankfully, her recovery has gone fairly smoothly. I am forever grateful to her and to my children for their unwavering support. Unfortunately, my recovery hasn’t gone as smoothly. Complications have had me back in the hospital three or four times since the original surgery. But as of now, we believe we have taken care of all of these complications and the future looks good. I should be back in the office in September, and back on my motorcycle even sooner (if my kids will tell me where they hid the keys).
I do want to say again how blessed I feel to work and live where I do. Since my original post, I have received over 300 texts, emails, cards and Facebook/Instagram comments. I’ll never be able to individually thank everybody who sent something but it is appreciated beyond words. During this recovery process there have been some dark times. During these times I have reread all these wonderful messages. They have lifted me up and given me strength.
I first came to Groton and took over Nashoba Vision in 2001. A practice that had been around since 1955. The relationships formed over the last 20+ years makes the practice feel more like a family then solely an eye care facility. And given the support you have shown me during this challenging time, it further confirms that this community is more like a large family. I am forever humbled by your kindness and compassion that you have shown me.
I look forward to getting back to the office in September and spending the next 20 (ok maybe 15) years caring for your eyes and continuing to grow our relationships. I’ll see you soon and as always, thank you for your support both personally and of Nashoba Vision.
