It’s Medical Vocabulary Monday!

This week’s term is diabetic retinopathy.

This condition affects the blood vessels in the retina (the light-sensitive part of the eye), and is a common complication of diabetes.

Symptoms of diabetic retinopathy can include:
👁️ Blurred or distorted vision
👁️ Dark spots or “floaters” in your vision
👁️ Difficulty seeing at night

If left untreated, diabetic retinopathy can lead to:
⚠️ Vision loss
⚠️ Retinal detachment
⚠️ Blindness

The key to managing diabetic retinopathy? Early detection and intervention! Regular eye exams and controlling blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol can help prevent or slow its progression.

If you have diabetes, make sure to schedule routine eye check-ups and talk to your doctor about protecting your vision.
