I have made the decision to retire from optical and close Precision Optics.
I was hoping I would be able to take some time off and resolve the issue with my hands, but unfortunately the demand has proven this difficult. The orthopedic surgeon has told me surgery on both hands is required. Each hand will require 3-4 weeks off and due to the amount of scar tissue on my right thumb additional cortisone shots are not an option. Each repair and adjustment I do moving forward is causing additional damage and pain. I tried taking a couple weeks off to see if inflammation and soreness would improve. Unfortunately, I was unable to do so because the demand of people to see me was too great. The longer I put off surgery while working could cause more damage, meaning a more invasive surgery.
My 29 year career and 14 years at Precision Optics has brought me great joy, success and personal fulfillment, but it’s time to move on.
I will be taking a week or so off to organize for liquidation and will reopen in April with unheard of liquidation deals. I’m not yet sure of my exact timeline, it will depend on the interest in my location and if the new occupant wants to get in and open before the tourist season kicks off.
If you or someone you know is interested in my space, feel free to contact me and I’ll be happy to assist getting you in touch with the owner.
I’m going to take some time off to focus on growing The Leroy Collection, visit friends and family, meet my grandson and recharge.
I will always cherish the relationships and friendships made over the last 14 years and hope I’m leaving the business community a little better than I found it. I’m forever grateful for the huge community support and loyalty of my clients. I’ll still be around and present at MotherLode Made, so make sure and come by and say hi šŸ˜ŽšŸ¤“

Unfortunately, my worn out hands are making work very challenging. At the end of a very busy day Tuesday, I had lost all range of motion in my right thumb. I was dropping things, cutting my self with my screwdriver and unable to grip my tools properly. Wednesday morning I was unable to squeeze toothpaste out of the tube onto my toothbrush.
I have an appointment scheduled for a cortisone shot 3/9 and a consultation with a surgical specialist in April.
The snow days have afforded my hands a few days to rest and have shown some improvement.
This week I will be focusing on getting all my outstanding orders delivered and accommodating appointments already scheduled.
After that, I will take a medical leave until I receive the cortisone shot. My hope is that the steroid injections will suffice until surgery.
Thank you for your understanding.

I will be temporarily out of the office to serve as my fathers primary Hospice caregiver as we help him transition through his final days. If you have an open order I will contact you. Thank you for your understanding during these difficult times.

IT’S OFFICIAL šŸŽ‰
I started this process about 9 months ago after being approached by a colleague and current board member. Applications, phone interviews, zoom interviews and lots of waiting. I hadn’t interviewed for anything in almost 20 years. It was crazy outside my comfort zone. I persevered through my fear, knowing we find growth in the things that terrify us. I received the phone call yesterday, the Governor would be announcing my appointment at 4pm today. I was asked to keep my appointment confidential until the official announcement and press release. I waited and now it’s official, I’m the newest RDO to serve on The California State Board of Optometry. My new position will have me at the State Capital advocating consumer protection policies and legislation in my field.
This is a civil service position, so no worries, things should be business as usual at my shop. The appointment will occupy 20-30 hrs a month of my time and require quarterly visits to the State Capital.
I’m honored and excited to get the opportunity to serve in such a prestigious and meaningful way.
My next steps, Oath of Office and Political Ethics Training and then off to The State Capitol for my first Board meeting in July.
I can’t stop smiling and feel great pride and gratitude. Oh, and a moderate amount of trepidation……
