It's about time we highlight our wonderful staff on this beautiful day!

We'd like to shine a light on Shawna Redd, part of our Clinical Transportation team here at Forward Health.

Shawna is the kind of person who sets goals and goes after them, and will do whatever it takes to help others do the same. She recently entered the helping field and is already pursuing her CDCA, with the goal of working directly with clients in clinical care. We are so excited to watch her continue to grow in this space.

When speaking with Shawna, we learned that she lives by the perspective that something good can always come, that there’s a "rainbow after every storm".

She also mentioned, not to our surprise, that her favorite part of working at Forward Health is watching and guiding others on their healing journeys. This truly reflects who she is as a person and her deep passion for people, which is something we can see by her commitment and interest in the work we do every day.

A fun fact about Shawna: while she may come across as quiet or reserved at first (and she’ll be the first to admit it!), once you get to know her, you’ll quickly discover she has plenty to say, and we'd go out on a limb to say it’s always worth hearing.

Shawna, we are so grateful to have you on our team and can’t wait to continue watching you grow, both personally and professionally. Keep up the incredible work!

Cherished members of our clinical leadership team at Forward Health put together a truly special Overdose Awareness Day event for our residents and clients.

It was a time of reflection, coming together, honoring the lives we’ve lost to addiction and overdose, while also standing together as a community committed to healing and hope. Staff and clients alike came together to share, support one another, and remember why this work matters so deeply.

Our Executive Director, David Palumbo, was present to speak, and share his personal journey with our residents, truly representing what it means to keep going, and know that recovery is possible. His message mirrored how passionate we are about standing together. The night reminded all of us, staff and clients alike, why we continue to fight, grow, and show up for one another every day. As heavy as what the day represents can be, we make it a point to shine a light on the resilience, strength, and hope that exists when we put one foot in front of the other.

Even in the midst of pain, there is light. There is hope. And at Forward Health, that hope is what keeps us moving forward together.

ATTENTION!

Our hearts are continuously heavy when we're updated with news like this (as follows); The loss of six community members to suspected overdoses is a tragic reminder of how fragile life can be and how important it is that we look out for one another. Each life lost leaves a ripple of pain through families, friends, and neighbors.. through all of us.

We know that these are difficult times for many, and while we cannot take away the pain, we can take action to protect each other. Please read the following guidance carefully and share it widely, your awareness could save a life.

-

The Franklin County Coroner’s Office has reported six suspected overdose deaths as of yesterday, August 26. A review of these incidents indicates there is no specific geographic area of concern.

In response, our community and the public to take the following precautions:
- Assume drugs purchased outside of a pharmacy may be laced and potentially lethal.
- Never use drugs alone.
- Keep naloxone accessible. Make sure someone knows where it is and can administer it if needed.
- Speak about about the risks associated with use, and encourage those you love to seek help through treatment and support, whenever possible.

If an overdose occurs, call 911 immediately. Do not leave the scene. The Good Samaritan Law provides legal protection for those seeking help.

For naloxone access: visit Columbus.gov/cfcap to find local distribution sites or to order by mail.

Community safety is a shared responsibility. Please share this information widely to help prevent further loss of life.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Sasha Mattox named to the Ohio Human Trafficking Commission’s Ambassador Advisory Council! 💙

We are deeply honored to share that Sasha Mattox, one of our dedicated clinicians at Forward Health, has been selected as an Ambassador for the Ohio Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Commission for the 2025–2026 term.

This appointment recognizes Sasha’s lived experience, her unwavering commitment to advocacy, and her relentless fight for justice and recovery. As an Ambassador Advisory Council Member, Sasha will provide vital insight to state-wide anti-trafficking initiatives, help shape policies, and participate in outreach and education efforts to combat human trafficking throughout Ohio. We are so proud of her, and proud to support her efforts in our community.

In Sasha’s words: “In the seven and a half years I’ve been clean, I’ve fought to stay out of a life that was trying to kill me, an underbelly society that lurks below the surface, always ready to devour and take another life. I’ve seen the darkest places humanity has to offer. The war on human trafficking must be fought, and who better to fight back than me.”

She also shares a quote that captures the very essence of her calling: “I raise up my voice - not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard.” Malala Yousafzai

These aren’t just words to Sasha, they’re the heartbeat of her mission, and we are grateful to walk beside her on this journey.

At Forward Health, we recognize that there are pieces of recovery that need to be highlighted more thoroughly - trauma, trafficking, exploitation, shame. These are the sometimes-silent threads that deserve to be seen, heard, and nurtured with care. Some parts of recovery don't show up in meetings or on treatment plans, but scream for validation in the quietest corners of a person's life. That is where true healing begins; that's where we start. It's about reclaiming power, safety, our voices, and our humanity.

From all of us at Forward Health: Sasha, your strength is transformative. Your voice is powerful. And your impact in this space will be a testament to what healing, purpose, and courage can truly look like when we fight back for our lives. Thank you for representing survivors, clinicians, and change-makers so fiercely and so beautifully. We see you, we support you, and we stand with you.

Time to highlight our incredible staff! ✨

Today we’d like to acknowledge Hannah Harman, a cherished Clinician of ours for our Women’s Program at Forward Health.

There’s something special about people who help others see the world differently, and we can tell Hannah is definitely one of them. Her heart is in this work because she’s witnessed transformation firsthand. We asked her what her favorite part of working at Forward Health is: She responded “Watching someone go from hopeless to hopeful.”

She lives by the belief that “you can’t solve a problem using the same consciousness that created it; you must learn to see the world anew.”

We couldn’t agree more. 💙

We recently learned that when she’s not pouring into others, you’ll probably find Hannah out on a four-wheeler or motorcycle, soaking up life one ride at a time.

She truly brings purpose, passion, and a new perspective to her work, and we’re lucky to have her! Keep it up, Hannah.

Unannounced auditions broke out in the office today, just as we neared the end of an already eventful, (yes, you know what we mean), yet productive.. day.

We were impressed.
We were also concerned.
.Mostly concerned.

The performers executed their plan with suspiciously high levels of coordination and enthusiasm. We’ll admit.. the planning phase was… thorough. Credit where it’s due.

Observers reaction? Mostly silent. Likely because she couldn’t contain how deeply, truly impressed she was. Or maybe she just blacked out from secondhand passion overflow. Hard to say.

All in all, they really outdid themselves with this one; certainly a 10/10 performance - one we did not ask for, but 10/10 nonetheless.

A heartfelt thank you to Lisa and Barb from L&B Educational Services for their generous donation of art supplies to our women's program. We are so grateful and know the women will feel the same!

🤍

“Please let them know it was donated in love”, Barb and Lisa shared.

Barb, who experiences chronic migraines, has found healing through art therapy and wanted to extend the same opportunity to our clients. Her hope is that creative expression can serve as a meaningful outlet and a source of comfort for those navigating the challenges of dealing with pain in recovery.

Thank you, Barb and Lisa, for your compassion and support!
