“For us, Milk Medicine is more than nourishment. It is a ceremony. It is a living, dynamic knowledge system that connects us to our ancestors and to our babies, to our land and to our futures. It’s not just about the act of feeding; it’s about what feeding represents: kinship, governance, love, and liberation.”

La Leche League USA helps parents, families, and communities to breastfeed, chestfeed, and human milk feed their babies through parent-to-parent support. LLL USA encourages, informs, educates, supports, and promotes the use of human milk and the intimate relationship and development that comes from....

From my bestfriends’ mom Regina Weiler nursing and pumping when i was a child, the WIC breastfeeding counselor that provided education prenatally, to the nurses and lactation consultant in the Landstuhl hospital that helped with those late feedings & cracked ni***es , the mom2mom clc that came to my home and helped me latch my son, & of course my family and friends that supported me along the way & never questioned my judgement or decision but were always present.

🍽️ There are a lot of what I call "recipes" out there for pumping: which setting to ⏱️ start on, how many minutes to stay on that first setting...then what setting to switch to and for how long...but it's all about playing with it. It's like an app or a 🎮️ new game...click and see what the buttons do and how that new setting works and how much milk you can get to flow.

I recommend pumping people start on the pump's fast mode 🏃🏽‍♀️ (or one of them, if your pump has more than one). Once you see milk from at least one side of your chest, move to a slower 🐢 mode...and increase vacuum but only to comfort (pumping should feel like nothing or a gentle tug) and ideally you are seeing sprays of milk (not just dribbles).

Not everyone needs to higher levels of vacuum, it's all about comfort...HOWEVER, if you reach a point where you still aren't seeing 👀milk AND you have turned the vacuum up as high as you find COMFORTABLE (this is NOT about what you can "tolerate"), then it's likely you need to:

1. try other fl**ges, ideally during a fl**ge fitting with a lactation professional who has a lot of different sizes and shapes of fl**ges (and the adaptors needed)...and if that doesn't help increase your milk yield to help you meet your lactation goals,
2. meet with an IBCLC who can work with you on milk production and many other aspects of infant feeding and lactation.
