'Twas The Night Before Christmas when all through the halls at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center... our residents were watching this WRGB CBS 6 News, Albany report from Anchor Julia Dunn who dropped by recently during a special holiday visit from a four-legged friend! Merry Christmas, everyone!

Jelly Roll is the smallest hero for the residents at Our Lady of Mercy in Guilderland.

It has been a heartwarming and fun-filled year here at Our Lady of Mercy as we reflect on all the wonderful moments we've shared with our residents and families, from our great bonfire tradition, to visits from Jelly Roll and Thor, to making Percy the Mercy Turkey together, and most recently, receiving those beautiful Christmas gift bags from young students at the Saratoga Central Catholic School. We have truly enjoyed it all.

Thank you to our cherished residents and families for entrusting us with your care, and a special thank you to our amazing staff for the countless ways you love on our residents. From our OLOM Family to yours, wishing you a Happy Holiday Season and the best New Year yet!

You better not cry, you better not pout... because yes, Santa Claus is coming to town! In fact, it's a secret but he's already in town and making a special stop at Our Lady of Mercy to visit with all the great folks there. (Shh.. word is he has a sleigh full of presents for everyone!) Don't worry, Santa will have plenty of time to make the rest of his deliveries tomorrow night! Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas, Santa!

Well, he tried, but the Grinch simply could NOT steal Christmas here at Our Lady of Mercy! We are full on with our holiday festivities, and Santa's Elves have been busy spreading joy and good cheer to all our residents. Check out all our beautiful decorations. We even have a "giving tree" thanks to the generosity of our staff and families. This tree helps fund the resident gift program ensuring that every resident receives a special gift for Christmas! It also helps several staff with gifts for their children. The greatest gift of all will be seeing the smiles on the faces of all our residents!

Here at Our Lady of Mercy, we are grateful for many blessings, but especially for our cherished residents and their families who entrust us with the care of their loved ones. We also want to express our appreciation for our amazing staff, from doctors and nurses who watch over the health and wellbeing of our residents, to activities coordinators who help engage our residents in stimulating activities, and all the other professionals working behind the scenes to bring joy to our residents. From all of us at Our Lady of Mercy, we wish everyone a warm, wonderful Thanksgiving!

How COOL is this? The residents here at Our Lady of Mercy participated in a fun craft project today with our Activities Department. Staff traced the hands of residents from all our units and created this Thanksgiving turkey on the upper-level activities room window. Named "Percy the Mercy Turkey," the masterpiece was conceived to express to the staff how thankful residents are for each and every one of them! Great job, everyone! (And kudos on the cool photo with the effect of being a float outdoors until you see that it's really an image on the window!) 🦃

Hold your horses! You've heard of pet therapy, but these four-legged friends are probably not the animals you were thinking of, right? Last week, we showed you how leaders at Our Lady of Mercy explored an Equine Expressive Arts exercise as a learning approach to help nurture their caregiving skills. Now check out how our residents shared in all the fun and benefited from seeing and petting the horses up close. Like owning pets, the experience of pet thereapy helps lower stress and improve residents' moods!

Here at Our Lady of Mercy, our staff are ALL caregivers at heart -- caregivers who truly honor the privilege of caring for residents like we would our own families. To nurture and explore those qualities of caregiving, our leadership team recently participated in Equine Expressive Arts, a learning approach that promotes the benefits of self-expression through caring for and feeding of gentle horses like Jelly Roll and Thor. The exercise helps participants bond, reduce stress, and improve focus. Taking this approach to self-care and tending to our own emotional well-being translates to even better care for all our residents!

Please join Our Lady of Mercy as we proudly honor our latest SPIRIT Award winner, Front Desk Receptionist Jeanie Marshall (right), pictured here with Senior Secretary Jennifer Barrett. We celebrate Jeanie for her warm personality and the wonderful way she lifts the spirits of all those who come to OLOM. Jeanie is beloved by residents, families, and staff alike. She treats everyone with the utmost respect, showing a big smile on her face and gratitude in her heart. Jeanie supports all departments here and cherishes being part of the OLOM family. Notably, Jeanie has even become the sole support for several residents who enjoy spending their days sitting and chatting with her -- residents who feel lost without her when she's not here. Thank you, Jeanie, for all you do in brightening our days!

Here at Our Lady of Mercy, the health and well-being of our residents and staff is top priority and Samantha Duval, BSN, RN, plays a crucial role in this effort as our senior expert in infection control and prevention. During this International Infection Prevention Week Oct. 19-25, join us in celebrating Sam for her dedication in educating everyone on infection prevention and ensuring the health of both our residents and staff. Thank you, Sam, for all your hard work and commitment throughout the year!

As the dog days of summer fade, we're excited to welcome the beautiful days of autumn here in the Great Northeast! Our residents at OLOM love to get outside on sunny days to breathe in that crisp fall air and huddle by our bonfire with a hot toddy to soak in the warmth of the sun. Our roaring bonfire has become a treasured tradition every year, helping residents relive the nostalgia of their campfire days and those precious memories of youth. Who's in the mood for some more s'mores?
