Wrap your head around this notion…
Do the least amount of work to elicit the greatest amount of change.

Just because summer time is upon us doesn’t mean you should start hammering your body with long intense workouts thinking you’ll look better in a tank top and shorts. Actually, you’ll do your body more harm by overtraining and stall your progress.

Wondering why you’re working out harder and getting worse results? Here’s why:

When you ramp up your workout intensity or duration, your body needs more time to recover. When you push your body beyond what is the right dose, it cannot maintain proper muscle recruitment and technique and you risk injury. Fatigue is the enemy of form.

Find the APPROPRIATE dose of workout programming for burning fat and building muscle.

The challenge is finding the sweet spot which would be NO MORE than the least amount of training. Understand OPTIMAL versus tolerable; optimal will always prevail.

How?

Find a credible trainer who will program workouts to meet YOUR individual needs.

An example would be a FULL BODY workout with compound, fundamental lifts only 1-2 days a week.

Trust the process and watch what happens!

Win the Weekend!

Trying to stay consistent with your workout routine?
It’s easy to fall off on the weekends when you tend to eat and drink a bit more.
But here’s an option:
Continue your fun weekend gatherings and meals.
Plan a workout on Saturday, Sunday or both to put those extra calories to good use.
Be sure to get in an appropriate RESISTANCE TRAINING workout once or twice every weekend and designate a few weekdays as your rest days instead.
Studies show on days when you prioritize training sessions, you tend to eat healthier, even with larger quantities of food.
It also eliminates 1-2 workouts during the busy weekdays when your platter is already filled with stressful schedules.
So plan your weekend workouts now and enjoy your fun without guilt!

-Plan an APPROPRIATE resistance training program for YOUR body; you may be surprised at how LITTLE you need!
-While classes can be fun and are better than nothing, they are inferior to customized personal programs.
-Hire a trainer, even for a short period of time, who specializes in individuality, strength, and corrective movement patterns.
-Stay committed to your program until it becomes a natural habit and your "happy place."
-Watch what happens!

Tired of taking fitness classes and making no progress with your goals?

Confused by all the contradictory fitness information from "influencers" on social media?

Stop following people who don't take the time to know YOU. As a fitness instructor at Guilford's recreation department, I realize the restrictions of trainers and clients with so many people in a class. Instead, get personal, appropriate programming and coaching in the comfort of your own home or at my fully equipped home gym. Virtual sessions are also available.

My name is Michelle Glass. New to the area, I have been a personal trainer, helping people of all ages reach their goals for over 16 years.

Stop wondering why you're not making progress doing what everyone else does. Fitness is a very personal endeavor, not a one-size-fits-all. I customize my programs for each individual to feel healthy and strong without any food tracking or restrictions.

Happy National Pickleball Day! Training Tips Tuesday by Michelle Glass Health Coach

There’s no doubt about it, Pickleball is America’s fasting growing sport and for good reason; it’s easy to play, low impact, brings people together, and appeals to a wide range of ages. But a word to the wise: be sure your body is properly prepared.

You can try to build an Iron Man suit to make you injury-proof, but you may find it challenging to move. Stuff happens that is out of your control, especially on the courts.

Instead, make your own natural suit-of-armor. When your muscles and joints have sufficient strength and mobility, and a central nervous system that can precisely control muscle activation, you will have a more DURABLE BODY, the best defense against injury anywhere! That’s what you CAN control and what you should strive to achieve at any age in your training sessions.

My coined program “Power in Motion” is exactly that: mobility and strength combined sessions that give the appropriate signal to your central nervous system (CNS) to support your Pickleball game or any sport/fitness endeavor.

I am booking now for September programs. Private and semi-private (3-5 people) sessions are being offered.

Fitness Friday by Michelle Glass Health and Life Coach
(Long-winded post, sorry, but worth the read!)

Consistency is key to success in just about every realm of life. From financial stability to healthy food choices and fitness routines as well as succeeding in school, one can achieve their goals one simple step at a time.

Take the current payday routine found on TikTok exposing each person’s pay check and how it’s being allocated for various expenses. A budgeting basic would be to break down your paycheck using the 50-30-20 program (50% needs, 30% wants, 20% savings). But instead of using a whole weekly or biweekly time period, divide by the number of days in that pay period and allocate daily. The amount per bracket will be much less but more manageable to pay bills and compounded daily for the savings to grow on a consistent basis. Always pay yourself in savings first!

The same principal can apply to wellness. Think 50-30-20 as a daily reminder to practice the following:
(Numbers are based on the average 16-hour wakeful period.)

50% = 8 hours of work you NEED for livelihood

30% = 4.8 hours of pleasure time you WANT (TV, favorite hobby, visiting friends and family, shopping)

20% = 3.2 hours of dedicated healthy habits you SAVE into yourself for longevity and wellness.

So 192 minutes (3.2 hours) out of every day can be doing the following:

Strength training: 20 min
Walking (min. 5000 steps) 40 min divided throughout the day
Preparing meals and eating: 80 min
Intellectual activities (reading, researching): 20 min
Social interactions (preferably LIVE and IN-PERSON): 20 min
Me time (alone and within yourself meditating or just relaxing): 12 min

You can always borrow from your 30% pleasure time once any of these savings activities become pleasurable (and they will!) as well as combine a few. For instance, walking with a friend (social interaction) can save 20 min.

You can apply the same strategy to education and achieving academic goals as well. I taught countless adolescents for over 30 years the value of small daily bits to win the race.

As you can see, I am a very numbers driven individual but also have learned that on a daily basis and in small, one degree turns, you, too, can manage to accomplish just about any goal you have.
