🎭💜💛💚 Nereids Parade 💚💛💜🎭
From vibrant beads flying through the air to the sounds of marching bands echoing down the streets, this year’s Nereids Parade was one to remember!
Mardi Gras, meaning “Fat Tuesday” in French, traces its roots back to medieval Europe and was brought to the United States in 1699 by French explorers. The celebration found its American home along the Gulf Coast—especially in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi—where masked balls, elaborate floats, and colorful parades became cherished traditions leading up to the Lenten season. Over time, Mardi Gras has grown into a symbol of community, culture, and joyful celebration.
This year, the Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Residency programs had the opportunity to ride in the parade together. Our residents proudly represented Memorial, tossing beads, waving to families, and soaking in the festive energy of the Gulf Coast community we are absolutely honored to serve.
It was more than just a parade—it was a celebration of teamwork, camaraderie, and bond between our programs. Both residency groups truly embraced the spirit of Mardi Gras and enjoyed themselves significantly, creating memories as colorful as the floats themselves.
Here’s to community, collaboration, and creating traditions—Laissez les bons temps rouler! 🎉✨
