**🎆 A Reminder This Fourth of July 🎆**
As we celebrate 249 years of independence, let's honor the day safely—without risking life-changing accidents. Fireworks are beautiful but not toys. Misuse can bring tragedy in the blink of an eye.
**⚠️ Why we must treat fireworks with respect:**
* In 2024, fireworks caused over **14,700 injuries** and **11 deaths** in the U.S., most occurring around **July 4th**.
* Emergency departments treat approximately **9,700 to 10,000 injuries annually**, with **70–75%** happening between late June and late July.
* Kids and teens under 20 suffer the majority of injuries; **children under 15 account for up to 36%**, and males face twice the risk.
* Most injuries involve **burns (hand, face, ears)** and **eye damage**, with **sparklers alone contributing to 1,700 ER visits last year**.
**🚫 Don’t MONKEY around with fireworks:**
* Even sparklers burn at **1,200–2,000 °F**—hotter than some metals.
* Illegal explosives like M‑80s can maim or destroy property.
* Careless use leads to fires, fall injuries, driving accidents, and even fatal outcomes.
**✅ Safety tips to remember:**
1. **Skip the home fireworks.** Attend professional displays instead—it’s safer and often legal.
2. If you insist on using consumer fireworks:
* Only use **legal, labeled items** from trusted sources
* Keep **water, hose, and first-aid gear** nearby.
* Light one item at a time, keep your distance, don’t relight duds
* Never hold fireworks or allow unsupervised children to handle them—even sparklers .
* Avoid alcohol when handling fireworks, and always wear protective gear (gloves, eyewear).
3. **Know the law.** Many areas ban any explosives—violators can face fines and jail time .
**🙏 Let’s celebrate smart:**
* Let trained professionals light up the sky.
* Use glow sticks and noisemakers for a fun, safe night.
* Ensure kids are nearby, supervised, and educated about the risks.
Let this Fourth be about freedom, joy, community—and safety. Don’t let a moment’s monkeying around with fireworks turn into months or years of regret.
Wishing you a bright, joyful—and injury-free—Independence Day! 🇺🇸
