Happy Friday!

Today’s mental health tip is all about coping with the unexpected.

Often life can be unexpected, especially when we have a plan. We like certainty in a world that is often uncertain.

While we can’t plan for unexpected things, we can plan for how we show up when unexpected things happen.

Some quick tips:
1. Stop and slow down. Usually when an unexpected thing show up, we amp up with anxiety.
2. Take a deep breath. While you are slowing down breath. This will help get you out of a physiological flooded state.
3. Focus on what is out of your control. When unexpected things happen, we focus on all the variables that we can’t control and try and control them. Instead of focusing on all of the things out of your control, focus on what is in your control.
4. Lastly and the most important believe in yourself. Know that whatever showed up unexpectedly you can work through it step by step. You got this 💪🏻

Have a great Friday 💛💪🏻.

Happy Tuesday.

I saw a fun movie this weekend and it reminded me about the importance of connection.

Just wanted to share and remind you all that when we are feeling down our negative mind will tell us we are alone and wants us to isolate.

Remember that you are not alone, it is good and okay to ask for help. We thrive in connection with others.

Let me know if you have seen the movie Thunderbolts and what you thought.

Also this is the crisis line number if you need someone to talk to. Call 1800 273 8255 or #988.

Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month?

I wanted to do a quick video to remind you to take note on all the ways you help manage your stress.

Stress isn’t something that is going to completely go away. It is important to learn the healthy ways to manage it.

Here are some quick tips :
1. How do you incorporate some kind of movement in your day? Exercise, walking, dancing, yoga or stretching are just a few ideas
2. What do you put in your body? Our gut is attached to our mental health. When we eat a lot of processed foods we feel bad physically and emotionally. Eating healthier options help manage our stress.
3. Social network- I don’t mean social media platforms. Who are the people on your life that support you? They laugh and cry. Healthy connections help improve our health.
Comment below and let me know ways you cope with stress. Don’t forget I did a YouTube video on stress management a few years ago. Link is posted here:

Welcome to my page. I am passionate about helping people with were they are in their lives and what they want to change. My belief is that we thrive in connection and we are constantly learning how to create healthy connections with others. The first step is with the relationship with yourself and how that impacts your relationships with others. I work with couples, individuals and families to help them change the interaction that isn’t working for them any more and create new beginnings. Please check out my you tube channel that is all about relationships (Monica Burton, LMFT) or go to my website and read my blog. Have a great day and hope you find peace and joy in the everyday.
