The Best Risk/Reward investment for Baby Boomers

Back in the day, when markets got this wild, you'd hear traders shout, “The prisoners are running the insane asylum!”

That pretty much sums up where we are today:
💥 Cash levels at 15-year lows
📈 S&P Volatility trending higher

As a baby boomer and long-term investor, I’ve chosen safety over speculation. Yesterday, I moved $50,000 into 6-month U.S. Treasury Bills—one of the safest places to park cash in uncertain times.

If you're not familiar with how Treasury securities work, here's the quick version:

🇺🇸 The U.S. Treasury issues:

Bills (0–1 year)
Notes (2–10 years)
Bonds (10+ years)

They all pay 100 (par) at maturity with $1,000 the minimum invested. The difference with Bills is you buy them below par—yesterday's 6-month auction price at 97.9%. This means you pay $978.66 and get back $1000 in 6 months. That’s a guaranteed 4.372% return—no fees, no risk, just a smart use of idle cash.

💡 You can actually open an account at the Federal Reserve via TreasuryDirect.gov—no commissions, no middlemen. Your bank becomes the Federal Reserve, and your cash is fully protected.

Why does this matter? I personally believe we could see a meaningful market correction in the next 6–9 months. But even if I’m wrong, this is still a smart, zero-risk move for anyone who doesn’t want to gamble with their nest egg savings.

🛑 No risk of default
💵 No price depreciation
📉 No exposure to stock market insanity

And if rates go higher? Great—you reinvest at a even better return once the bills mature and this can be done automatically through Treasury Direct.

This strategy isn’t about timing the market—it's about protecting what you can’t afford to lose.
