We understand there is concern and confusion right now about reports suggesting that taking acetaminophen (Tylenol) during pregnancy might increase the risk of autism in children. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) has reviewed the evidence and here Is what the research means for our pregnant patients:

• Acetaminophen remains one of the few safe options for managing fever, pain, or other discomforts during pregnancy. Untreated fever and significant pain can themselves carry risk for both the pregnant person and the developing baby.
• Like all medications during pregnancy, it should be used only when needed, at the lowest effective dose, and for the shortest duration possible.
