My name is Brian Somers, Dining Services Director, for Terrace Lake Retirement Community. I am a native Michigander, where I spent the first 40 years of my life, before landing in Northeast Alabama. My wife Kelly and I have made this area our new home. We have 2 sons. Being a husband, father and grandfather are certainly one of the most rewarding things in life.

I learned at an early age that cooking could get me out of the hayfield and other farm chores and that was the beginning of my culinary career. I have vast experience in the restaurant world . I have spent time in fine and casual dining as well as fast service. One of my best experiences was getting to work for and help my son at the restaurant he manages in North Dakota.

Being able to provide comfort to the residents of this community is so much fun. Coming to work for the residents is such a joy and the most fun you can have in the kitchen.

Congratulations, Mayor Dollar!

First off, I want to say how truly humbled I am by the support we received during this election. From everyone who volunteered, put out a yard sign, or took the time to talk with friends and neighbors—your support means the world to me and my family.

This election—and the runoff that followed—has been a long campaign for all the citizens of Guntersville. Over the past months, I’ve knocked on thousands of doors and spoken with so many of you about the issues that matter most. And I want to be clear: I hear you. I hear the concerns that affect each of us in different ways.

As mayor, my responsibility is to serve all the citizens of Guntersville. My goal is to grow our city in a steady, sustainable manner—one that protects what makes our community special while preparing us for the future.

Now, we know there will always be issues where we don’t all agree. That’s the nature of any strong, engaged community. But what unites us is far greater: we share a deep love for Guntersville. With compassion, compromise, and good old-fashioned common sense, I believe we can continue to move this city forward—together.

So once again, thank you for your trust, your encouragement, and your support. It is the greatest honor of my life to serve as your mayor, and I truly look forward to working with all of you over the next four years.
