The City of Guntersville Public Works Department collects three types of residential solid waste: garbage, yard waste/rubbish, and recyclables. In an effort to minimize litter, waste contamination, and foul odors, the City of Guntersville plans to enforce existing regulations more strictly requiring the use of garbage cans with tightly fitting lids. Currently, residents are allowed to have two garbage cans with a maximum capacity of 32 gallons per container emptied each week. Recycling is required by city ordinance and two 32 gallon cans should be sufficient for solid waste if residents are recycling correctly. Residents provide their own garbage receptacles which may be plastic or metal and all garbage cans must have sealed lids. The use of fitted lids lessens the chances of cans tipping during severe weather or attracting animals that may scatter harmful waste material.

The Guntersville Recycling Center will have maintenance of its baler this week which may cause delayed pickups for some business recycling trailers/receptacles on Thursday and Friday (please breakdown any boxes to maximize the available space). We regret any inconvenience and will resume regular commercial pickup as quickly as possible. This should not cause any problems with residential pickup for next week.

As you celebrate America's birthday, please plan ahead to Keep American Beautiful & Clean by making sure you have plenty of bags with you to contain trash. Separate recyclables (giving cans, bottles, etc. a good rinse first) from the waste stream. Remember to secure any loose debris, especially in truck beds, with a tarp or in bags. Remember medical supplies including masks, gloves, needles and syringes (must be secured in a plastic bottle with a lid) go in the trash.

Please throw your plastic gloves, masks, and other protective equipment or medical supplies into a trash bag and tie it off. DO NOT put them in recycling bags or trailers. These items can spread germs and litter our roadsides and highways if not contained.
