HOPE Springs Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

HOPE Springs Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Horses Offering People Encouragement through EAGALA Model Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, which incorporates horses into the counseling process. Costs may vary.

Many studies have shown that utilizing horses in the therapy process helps to increase client self-awareness. This form of therapy allows clients to find solutions to their own problems by providing opportunities to parallel their experiences with the horses to situations on their own lives. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy uses a team of professionals working alongside horses to help people struggling with a variety of issues including, but not limited to, post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, trauma/abuse, and marriage or family issues as well as issues related to adoption and/or foster care. HOPE Springs is a non-profit 501(c)3 ministry. Our team is trained and certified through the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA), which is the leading international non-profit association for professionals using equine therapy to address mental health and human development needs. The EAGALA model holds its professionals to a very high standard of practice and the client’s physical and emotional safety is always of utmost importance. What is The EAGALA Model? The Team Approach – An Equine Specialist, a Mental Health professional, and horses work together with clients in all EAGALA sessions. Focus on the ground – No horseback riding is involved. Instead, effective and deliberate techniques are utilized where the horses are metaphors in specific ground-based experiences. Solution-Oriented – The basis of the EAGALA Model is a belief that all clients have the best solutions for themselves when given the opportunity to discover them. Rather than instructing or directing solutions, we allow our clients to experiment, problem-solve, take risks, employ creativity, and find their own solutions that work best for them. Code of Ethics - EAGALA has high standards of practice and ethics and an ethics committee and protocol for upholding these standards, ensuring best practices and the highest level of care. You may notice a FOR SALE sign in our yard! We just want to let the community know that HopeSprings itself is not for sale and HopeSprings is NOT closing. The building and property are for sale, however.

This is a decision that has been made alongside our landlord and our board and it has been made with much prayer and consideration. HopeSprings will continue to provide services and will relocate to Cove Church at least temporarily when/if the property sells unless we have secured another location. As we consider our next steps, we will strive to remain in the same general vicinity to remain accessible to our current and new clients.

We are so grateful for our partnership with Shepherd’s Cove Hospice and the sponsors and volunteers who make this camp possible twice a year. I just have to say- our four-legged team members are also absolute rock-stars. Their presence offers space for those who need a little silliness and fun, a creative outlet, or just stillness, quiet, and comfort.

Amora was such a quiet and gentle soul. Amora was born on Chalakee and was sold to a young girl as her first horse. She later returned to partner with us as a therapy horse.

Her herd will definitely miss her. You can see one of her pasture-mates, Gitana, in the second photo. Rest assured, she’s being provided with some extra love and care during this time.

Amora was in her 20’s and had some health issues the last few years. We want to express our gratitude to Anita and Chalakee for the wonderful, loving care they’ve provided Amora and all of the herd. She will be missed. ♥️
