May is mental health awareness month. May serves as a reminder to take care of your mental health which is JUST as important as your physical health. May 9th is Fentanyl Awareness Day. I know Fentanyl as a pain medication that is often the last resort for those suffering with cancer related pain, however, Fentanyl in the wrong hands has led to numerous overdoses and deaths. The CDC reported that over 1000, 000 people died of of drug overdoses in 2021 to Jan of 2022. 67% of these deaths involved synthetic opioids like Fentanyl. Fentanyl is being mixed with other illicit drugs like co***ne, m**h, and he**in. Some people don't even realize they are taking som**hing that has Fentanyl in it. Illicit Fentanyl is 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times STRONGER THAN HE**IN. Fentanyl poisoning is now the leading cause of death in people 18-45 in the U.S. It surpasses su***de, gun violence, and vehicle accidents. You may feel, oh not my kids, but let me tell you, you should be terrified for your children. Sometimes these substances are presented as candy, or kids are pressured because its "just" ma*****na or a little Adderall. It may not be and one dose, with a drop of Fentanyl the size of a SNOWFLAKE can kill someone.
Please consider signing the letter to our president. Fentanyl is a crisis, you can say it is "not my problem", however, if you have children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, they are in danger and this is your crises too.
