October is Physical Therapy Month, and we are showcasing our team.

Meet Amber Glawe!

Amber is a Physical Therapy Assistant and has been a part of the GMHC team for 12 years.

Amber graduated from Kirkwood Community College PTA program.

In Amber’s free time she likes to spend time with her husband, Ryan and three young sons. She likes going camping, experiencing parenthood, and binge-watching TV shows on Netflix.

“Seeing patients improve and return to their prior level of function and building long-lasting relationships with my patients is very rewarding.”

Many people think falls are a normal part of aging. The truth is, they're not. Most falls can be prevented—and you have the power to reduce your risk.

To promote greater awareness and understanding of fall prevention, GMHC's PTA, Amber Glawe, recently completed a 16-hour course as a
Fall Prevention Specialist to help GMHC patients and staff.

If you are concerned about falling, talk to your Primary Care Provider about seeing Outpatient Physical Therapy.

Meet Joel Gourley!

Joel is a Physical Therapist and has been part of the GMHC team for 5 years.

Joel graduated from the University of Iowa with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree.

In Joel’s free time, he likes to spend time with his wife, Jaimie, and son, Miles. He also likes to travel, run, and watch sports. His favorite teams are Iowa State, the Cubs, and the Bears.

“I enjoy working closely with each patient to build a rehab plan that best suits them. I see patients with all sorts of different diagnoses and enjoy the variation.”

GMHC Cardiopulmonary services offers Cardiac Stress Tests.

In most cases, the test is performed on a treadmill. An injection of medication can be used to stress your heart if you are unable to exercise adequately.

Your provider may also order nuclear imaging before and after your heart has been stressed.

The images can show areas of low blood flow through the heart and damaged heart muscle.
