“WTOC reached out to the school district about the parents’ concerns through email, phone calls, voicemails, and text messages to ask what they were going to do differently for the rest of the week, but got no response.”

This is my take on this…parents need to give the schools grace and give it time this week to smooth out. It’s day 1 for goodness sakes. We were all notified over the weekend about the metal detectors being installed and to expect delays and they have swiftly been installed since this incident happened Friday afternoon and it’s now the following Monday. So instead of asking the schools what they will do differently the rest of the week, how about ask the parents how they, along with their child, can better plan and be more prepared for delays.

I think our school officials have done an outstanding job handling this and I’m glad to see ECSD is no nonsense with all of it. My kids are in middle and elementary school currently so I know this process will soon be in place at their schools. I would rather be in a long line at the schools knowing it’s for the better and the safety of our students and teachers than to be in a long line at a funeral home because something terrible happened because nothing was done.

Issues rolling out new metal detectors at Effingham County High Schools Monday morning caused delays upwards of an hour, as lines of students stretched outside in the early hours of the day, as they waited to be screened. Students we spoke with say they understand the bigger picture, and believe it....
