šŸ“– A MUST READ

Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker

I truly believe everyone should read this book and learn how critical sleep is to our health. But if you don’t have the time here are a few key takeaways provided by the author.

Quick side rant…
Everyone is so worried about what supplements to take or what recovery tools to use to improve their health, meanwhile they’re sleeping 5 hours a night and running on caffeine to survive the day.

Sleep is the best recovery tool we have and it’s free. Make sure you’re sleeping a quality 7-9 hours a night before even worrying about anything else!

Sumo Deadlifts

The sumo deadlift is an awesome exercise to build strength and muscle mass.

There are a few key differences between the sumo and conventional deadlift.

For some people the sumo will be more conducive to their body mechanics. Especially if they’re someone who finds their low back rounded in the set up of a conventional deadlift.

You may need to work on a little groin mobility to comfortably get into a sumo stance. So don’t just force yourself through this movement if it doesn’t feel right!

STOP ABUSING YOUR SHOULDERS

Warming up the scapular and rotator cuff musculature can make a HUGE difference

It’ll decrease your pain and improve your performance…and it only takes a few minutes

Try out this quick routine:
šŸ”¹Banded A (palm back) x 10 reps
šŸ”¹Banded A (palm forward) x 10 reps
šŸ”¹Banded T (palm forward) x 10 reps
šŸ”¹Banded External Rotation x 15 reps

Deadlifting 101

In this video I break down the basics of a hip hinge.

The hip hinge is the fundamental pattern behind a barbell deadlift, RDL, hip thruster or any other movement where you’re lifting primarily through your hips rather than knees

Over the years I’ve found this is extremely difficult for most petiole to master. So one of my favorite ways to introduce a hinge is through a kettlebell deadlift off an elevated surface

It’s as user friendly as could be and extremely functional for every day life.

So follow along and learn a few of the keys for setting up a deadlift and how to execute it flawlessly

ACTIVATE YOUR HIPS šŸ”„

This is my personal favorite when it comes to activating the lateral hip musculature.

You’ll feel your gluteus medius, the deep rotators of the hip and some of your core musculature working hard to maintain this side plank with a clamshell

It works wonders before squats, deadlifts or any other lower body movement patterns

Try 5 rounds of 10 second holds

If you’re a runner and want to use it as an endurance exercise then just increase the time per round

Where is your knee pain coming from?

Many people deal with knee pain and think the root of their problem is the knee itself.

Sometimes we have to look above and/or below the pain to find the root cause.

Many times a lack of hip stability can create issues down the chain and result in knee pain. Similarly, a lack of hip stability can also create issues up the chain and manifest as lower back pain.

The Lateral Heel Tap is one of my favorite drills to teach people how to stabilize on one leg and work through a hip hinge pattern.

Get yourself a small step or a few plates stacked together. If you're having trouble balancing you can hold onto something but quickly try to progress away from external support.

There are a lot of moving parts in this drill so take some time to watch the video a few times through.

If you're doing it correctly you shoulder feel your glutes and outer hip muscles on fire by the time your finished!

ETHOS HOODIES COMING SOON šŸ‘€

I’ll be putting together an order for hoodies again this year so if you’re interested let me know what size you would like!

Hoodies will be $45. They’re a dark heather grey and will be the same exact material as the ones from last year (for those of you who got a black one)

Also, got some hats recently which are a light material and great for the gym. Those are $25 for anyone interested

Hey Everyone!
This year I'm helping to raise money for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation again. They host an incredible flag football event each year at MetLife stadium and I've participated in this for a few years now.

It's always great to see how much of an impact this foundation has in supporting those suffering from these conditions and the amount of money they donate to research!

Our team is working toward raising $5,000 and we've raised a good amount with your help through the football boxes we had been selling a few weeks back.

We'd be beyond appreciative of any donations for this incredible cause!

I'm so excited to announce that this fall I'll be participating in A Touch of Football Challenge for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation! My teammates and I will be working to raise critical funds to support all those living with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Crohn's disease and ulcerative co...
