Every March, Brain Injury Awareness Month shines a light on the importance of understanding, preventing, and supporting those affected by brain injuries. Millions of people live with the lasting effects of brain injuries, which can impact memory, movement, emotions, and overall quality of life.
There are two main types of brain injuries:
1. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
A TBI occurs when an external force injures the brain. Common causes include falls, car accidents, sports injuries, or assaults. Symptoms can range from mild concussions to severe brain damage, often requiring medical attention and long-term rehabilitation.
2. Non-Traumatic Brain Injury (NTBI)
An NTBI results from internal factors such as stroke, infection, lack of oxygen, or exposure to toxins. These injuries can be just as serious as TBIs and may lead to cognitive, physical, or emotional challenges.
How to Support Brain Health:
Wear helmets and seatbelts to reduce risk of head injury.
Manage blood pressure and cholesterol to prevent strokes.
Stay physically active and mentally engaged.
Seek medical care promptly after any head injury or neurological symptoms.
At Panther Valley Pharmacy, the focus is on community health and awareness. Understanding brain injuries helps build a safer, more supportive environment for everyone.
