This is a great reminder of the importance of teaching REPLACEMENT behaviors! Instead of telling neurotypical kids “not to stare” or “not to point” tell them what they SHOULD do! Model social greetings without an expectation of reciprocation, smile, wave!

Instead of teaching your kids not to stare at mine, teach them to say hello. Teach them to ask mine to play. and don't just teach them not to point, encourage them to wave.

Allow them to ask questions. We don't think it's rude. We're happy to answer them for you, if you don't know how to.

Teach your kids about kids like mine, or I'll teach mine about kids like yours.

"Why did they laugh at me mommy?"

"Why did they call me that name?"

It's because they don't know any better. It's because they haven't been taught. It's because they think that different is weird, and they haven't been told that it's not.

They haven't been taught yet that different is normal. Everyone is different.

You're different sweet child, just like everyone else...
but unfortunately, some people are ignorant.

Today is Autism Awareness Day! This month we want to especially remind you of a few things!
*The SPECTRUM part! Every person with autism is a different and unique person and while they may share a diagnosis, the way that diagnosis presents or affects that person can vary so significantly!
*Autism parents are nothing short of SUPERHEROES. We spend a few hours a week with your kiddos, you spend your life with them and we want you to know WE SEE YOU!
*The Autism rate in NJ has gone up AGAIN this year to 1 in 34 children being diagnosed. We hope to emphasize the importance of early recognition and treatment and how early intensive ABA can make a huge positive impact!

To all our kiddos and families who work together with us to support you- thank you!!! 🧩💙
