Knee pain isn’t always a knee problem 👀

The psoas plays a huge role in hip position, pelvic control, and how force travels down to the knee.
When it’s stiff, overactive, or not doing its job well, the knee often pays the price.

In this video, I’m doing manual therapy on the psoas to help restore motion and reduce excessive tension.

⚠️ But here’s the key point:
Manual therapy alone is not the solution.
The psoas may be part of the problem, but lasting relief only comes when you follow it up with the right exercises, dosed correctly, to:
• Restore hip control
• Improve load transfer
• Build resilience through movement

Treat the tissue.
Train the system.
That’s where results happen.

Do you oversupinate while running? 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️💨
(Oversupination = your foot stays rolled outward instead of absorbing shock.)

Here are common reasons it happens:
1️⃣ Weak intrinsic foot muscles
Small foot muscles aren’t doing their job → less control + poor shock absorption.
2️⃣ Limited ankle dorsiflexion
If your ankle can’t bend forward well, your body compensates by staying on the outside of the foot.
3️⃣ Overactive peroneals
These outer-leg muscles may be working overtime, pulling the foot outward with every step.
4️⃣ Hip external rotation dominance
When your hips favor outward rotation, that pattern travels down the chain → feet roll out.
5️⃣ High cadence
Quick turnover with reduced ground contact time can limit pronation and shock absorption.
6️⃣ Not the correct sneakers 👟
Shoes that are too stiff, too narrow, or overly “stable” can push you into oversupination.
💡 Why it matters: Oversupination increases stress on the ankles, knees, and hips and can raise injury risk over time.

📌 Fixing it isn’t just about the foot — it’s about the entire kinetic chain.

Meet the Popliteus ➡️ a small but mighty muscle behind your knee, the popliteus helps unlock the knee by rotating the tibia so your leg can bend smoothly.

For runners 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️, it plays a key role in knee stability and controlling rotation during foot strike. When it’s weak or irritated, it can contribute to knee pain, instability, or discomfort on downhill runs.

Strong, well-functioning popliteus = smoother strides and happier knees.

One of the biggest myths I still hear is:
“Your arthritis is bad, so of course you’re in pain.”

But science says it’s not that simple.

📚 A 2022 peer-reviewed study found no significant link between how severe arthritis looks on X-ray and how much pain someone feels. Some people with “severe” arthritis had little pain, while others with “mild” changes were in a lot of pain.

Why? Because pain isn’t just about joint damage.
It’s influenced by inflammation, the nervous system, stress, sleep, past injuries, and how the brain processes pain.

•Imaging shows structure.
•Pain is a whole-body, whole-person experience.

Your body is more than a picture.
