Mindfulness and yoga truly go hand in hand — both invite us to slow down, tune in, and be present.

Through mindful movement and breath, yoga helps calm the mind and ease stress, while mindfulness strengthens focus and self-awareness. 🧘‍♀️

For students especially, these practices can be game-changers — improving concentration, managing anxiety, and bringing a sense of balance amidst busy schedules.

Studies show that mindfulness meditation increases gray matter density in brain regions linked to learning, memory, and emotional regulation (Harvard Medical School, 2011)

Yoga lowers cortisol — the body’s main stress hormone — helping students feel calmer and more balanced (Frontiers in Psychiatry, 2018)

Mindfulness programs in schools have been found to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, and increase resilience and optimism (Mindfulness Journal, 2017)

Students who practice mindfulness regularly show better attention control and executive functioning — both key for studying and test-taking (Educational Psychology Review, 2019)

It’s officially back to school season!!! ✏️ 🏫 🧡

We hope all of our Warriors have a great start to the school year and we cannot wait to be back in the classroom with them!

📌📚🚌📓

School can be fun and playful, full of memories and adventures with friends new and old.

But it can also be scary, stressful, packed with new and unfamiliar experiences and opportunities.

This season can bring anxiety, overwhelm, fear, and stress. But it can also bring love, happiness, confidence, and spark so many new interests and hobbies!

When we practice yoga and mindfulness with our students, our goal is to set them up with the tools they need to navigate each and every one of these emotions and scenarios.

Yoga is a powerful practice that can help our students to be more present, move through life more confidently, and create a stronger connection to Self. 🤍

Mindfulness has roots in ancient traditions, yet it has become increasingly integrated into modern psychological therapies and is supported by scientific research

Mindfulness practices, like meditation, can help regulate the nervous system, reducing the body’s stress response and promoting relaxation

Regular mindfulness practice can enhance cognitive functions, including attention span, working memory, and concentration - this is why PLW incorporates mindfulness practices into our curriculum!

Mindfulness doesn’t require specific settings or equipment; it can be integrated into everyday activities through mindful breathing, mindful walking, or simply paying attention to the present moment

Happy Technique Tuesday! 🧡

Today we’re breaking down Tree Pose - Vrksasana 🌳

A balancing yoga posture that strengthens the legs, ankles, and core while improving balance and concentration.

Start in Tadasana (Mountain Pose), shift your weight to one leg, and bring the sole of the lifted foot to kickstand (keeping toes on the ground), the inner thigh or calf of the standing leg, avoiding the knee. Maintain a strong, stable stance by pressing foot and thigh together and focusing your gaze (drishti) to help with balance.

🧘‍♀️ Find your focus! Your drishti in yoga can be a HUGE tool is keeping your balance and concentration- find something still to gaze at while holding tree pose
🧘‍♂️ Hands can be in Anjali Mudra (prayer hands) in heart center or over head, maybe you extend your branches out. There are many options for mudras here, find one that makes sense for you and your personal practice
🧘‍♀️ Hold & focus on your breath! Breath is a strong tool in our yoga practice, it helps us to ease the mind and stay grounded. In balancing poses it’s easy to lose control of our breath as we become more concerned about alignment and well…. Holding our balance! But the breath can make us feel even STRONGER in these postures!

WHAT WE DO:

Project Little Warriors is a non profit organization going into schools to bring mindfulness and self love to the younger generation by way of yoga and fitness! We provide about an hour long yoga class during the children’s school day to help relax, calm, and help them find out who they truly are. We have begun to see remarkable changes within these children, taking what they have learned from their mat to the outside and enhancing everyone with these special gifts!!
