Mindfulness has roots in ancient traditions, yet it has become increasingly integrated into modern psychological therapies and is supported by scientific research

Mindfulness practices, like meditation, can help regulate the nervous system, reducing the body’s stress response and promoting relaxation

Regular mindfulness practice can enhance cognitive functions, including attention span, working memory, and concentration - this is why PLW incorporates mindfulness practices into our curriculum!

Mindfulness doesn’t require specific settings or equipment; it can be integrated into everyday activities through mindful breathing, mindful walking, or simply paying attention to the present moment

Happy Technique Tuesday! 🧡

Today we’re breaking down Tree Pose - Vrksasana 🌳

A balancing yoga posture that strengthens the legs, ankles, and core while improving balance and concentration.

Start in Tadasana (Mountain Pose), shift your weight to one leg, and bring the sole of the lifted foot to kickstand (keeping toes on the ground), the inner thigh or calf of the standing leg, avoiding the knee. Maintain a strong, stable stance by pressing foot and thigh together and focusing your gaze (drishti) to help with balance.

🧘‍♀️ Find your focus! Your drishti in yoga can be a HUGE tool is keeping your balance and concentration- find something still to gaze at while holding tree pose
🧘‍♂️ Hands can be in Anjali Mudra (prayer hands) in heart center or over head, maybe you extend your branches out. There are many options for mudras here, find one that makes sense for you and your personal practice
🧘‍♀️ Hold & focus on your breath! Breath is a strong tool in our yoga practice, it helps us to ease the mind and stay grounded. In balancing poses it’s easy to lose control of our breath as we become more concerned about alignment and well…. Holding our balance! But the breath can make us feel even STRONGER in these postures!

Whatever your plans this summer - practicing mindfulness can help you live in the moment, and appreciate the present 🧡

Adho Mukha Svanasana or Downward facing dog is one of those poses that we tend to have a love hate relationship with! It’s a very well known posture that is used SO many times throughout class.

It’s a resting pose for some, and very challenging for others - especially if you have wrist or shoulder pain.

To get into down dog you’ll want to start in table top with shoulders stacked over wrists and hips over knees, this will ensure that we’re keeping proper alignment as we move into DD.

From here, spread the fingers wide, creating a stable and strong foundation.

Begin to tuck your toes under and send your hips back, shifting the stomach towards your thighs. Keep toes pointed forward - begin by keeping a slight bend in the knees, over time as the body becomes more flexible slowly straighten the legs sensing the heels toward your mat.

Some tips to help you feel more comfortable in downward facing dog:

🧡 Do not lock out the legs, keep a micro bend in the knees to prevent injury
🧡 Use blocks under the hands to take some pressure off of the wrists
🧡 “Peddle out the feet” is something you’ll often hear in class - the heels do NOT need to be touching the mat! Allow the hamstrings to loosen over time
🧡 Bend one knee as you straighten the other, reaching your heel towards the mat. This is another great way to get the hamstrings warmed up.
🧡 Hold downward facing dog for 5 or more breaths, then come out into table top. Over time this pose will start to feel easier and easier.

Another important thing to note: no two people have a yoga practice that looks and feels exactly the same. LISTEN to your body and adjust accordingly. Most postures can be taken from table top so if down dog just isn’t your jam, that’s okay. 🤍

9 schools, 100+ yoga sessions, we travelled to Colorado for classes, different poses each week and intentions that keep us grounded filled our hearts and allowed us to build connections with all our students this year!!

HAPPY MONDAY! 🌞🤍

It’s officially SUMMER! These photos remind us of what’s to come this season - new memories, fun experiences, exploring & learning!

We’re so excited to see what summer has in store for us this year 🌻🍉✨

It’s gonna be a hot week! Here are some things we’re doing to stay cool 😎

☀️ staying hydrated with lots of water and electrolytes
☀️ snacking on hydrating treats like fruit and ice pops
☀️ taking a moment to relax with some mindfulness activities
☀️ using breathwork as a way to unwind and chill out after lots of movement
☀️ incorporating yin yoga movements into our routine to stay grounded and balanced

Project Little Warriors is a non profit organization going into schools to bring mindfulness and self love to the younger generation by way of yoga and fitness! We provide about an hour long yoga class during the children’s school day to help relax, calm, and help them find out who they truly are. We have begun to see remarkable changes within these children, taking what they have learned from their mat to the outside and enhancing everyone with these special gifts!!
