Jon D. Batchelor
Age: 87 of Haddonfield

On July 10th, 2025, Jon Batchelor peacefully passed away at the age of 87, at his lifelong Haddonfield, NJ home. He left behind a remarkable legacy of compassion, dedication and enduring love for his family and community.

Beloved husband of Mae (née Nelson), devoted father of Judi (Bill) Bayer of Washington Crossing, PA, John N. of Philadelphia, PA, and Janet (Robert) DePersia of Cherry Hill, NJ. Cherished Pop Pop of Brittany, William, and Paige Bayer, and Robert III, Nicholas, Michael, and Natalie DePersia. Jon was also the dear brother of the late James (Kaaren) Batchelor of Marlton, NJ.

Born in Camden, NJ in 1937, Jon’s life was deeply rooted in the community of Haddonfield, where he spent most of his years, apart from the time his Naval career took him to Virginia, Connecticut, and Maryland. From a young age, Jon showed a remarkable spirit and determination, excelling as a three-sport athlete at Haddonfield Memorial High School in football, basketball, and baseball. His athletic talents earned him recruitment to play football for the U.S. Naval Academy in 1955, marking the beginning of a distinguished military career.

Jon was truly a special individual known for his warmth, integrity, and strength. He was the kind of person you don’t come across frequently, someone whose kindness and presence left a lasting mark on everyone he met. His time in the Navy was marked by dedication and honor. Serving one year aboard an aircraft carrier and three years on submarines, he carried himself with a deep sense of duty that touched all who knew him. Later, as a coach at the Naval Academy, he poured his passion into guiding young athletes in football, basketball, and boxing—always leading by example with the discipline and care that defined his own identity.

Returning to Haddonfield, Jon embraced his next calling with the same steadfast devotion. For 35 years, he was a beloved mathematics teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School and Eastern High School, but his influence reached far beyond the classroom walls. For two decades, he shaped lives as a high school football coach, inspiring countless students with patience and wisdom. Yet, the moments that brought him the greatest joy were those spent coaching his grandsons in the Cherry Hill midget football league from 2004 to 2013—times filled with laughter, pride, and the passing down of endless invaluable life lessons along the way.

Jon’s life was shaped by humility, loyalty, and a deep sense of responsibility to others. Whether as a teacher, coach, teammate, husband, father, pop pop, or friend, he led with heart and treated every person with respect and compassion. He will be remembered not only for what he accomplished, but for the quiet example he set and the love he gave freely to all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Jon’s family on July 26th from 2-3:15pm at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 204 Wayne Ave, Haddonfield, NJ 08033; where his funeral service will immediately follow at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jon’s memory to the Haddonfield Memorial High School Athletic Department. Send your donation to Haddonfield Memorial High School 401 Kings Highway East Haddonfield, NJ 08033 ATTN: HMHS Athletics. Reference Jon Batchelor Tribute on your donation.

Roberta Tiller
Age: 78 of Audubon NJ, formerly of Haddonfield NJ

Passed away peacefully on July 1st, 2025, surrounded by family. Roberta was the daughter of the late Mary & Charles Murray of Haddonfield NJ. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Lynne and Paul Chapman, her niece Gillian Chapman and great niece and nephew.

After Roberta retired from retail, she lived a peaceful life perusing her many hobbies, including collecting every photograph of her great niece and nephew, preserving family history, and completing every jigsaw puzzle she could lay her hands on. She was also an avid animal lover and lifetime member of the Philadelphia Zoo.

Roberta’s niece Gillian wrote the following, which summarizes our love for Roberta.

The world lost a wonderful person, wonderful sister, wonderful friend, and to me a wonderful aunt. Roberta Tiller, or as I have always called her, Bucky. She was born 6/25/47 and passed away peacefully, surrounded by family 7/1/25. To say that was too soon, too unexpected, too unfair would be too little of a statement. She left behind so many friends and family, and I hope we will find comfort someday in the knowledge that she did not suffer, it was simply her time.

She was a great supporter of all animals. She always had cats, usually littermates. Her most recent cats, Ben and Jerry will be thrilled to be reunited. When I was a child I would spend the night while my parents stayed with my Grandmother, I thought it was the coolest to have a sleepover at Bucky’s. We would order pizza, watch Disney movies and have ice-cream. The only negative was her cats before Ben and Jerry never really liked outsiders and they would stare at me from the threshold as I slept…very unsettling.

She was a lifelong supporter of the Philadelphia Zoo. Some of my favorite childhood memories were with Bucky at the Zoo. We would make a day of it, we had a very specific path we would walk, one that hit all our favorite animals, even her favorite tree, but always missing the reptile house. We would linger forever at the Giraffes, those were Bucky’s favorite. She would chat with each one like long lost friends. She would always call me with updates of the upcoming events, and new animals at the zoo. She knew all the animals’ names and would be a little miffed that I didn’t remember it was Rita, the cheetah’s birthday. Sorry Rita.

Bucky will always live on in my fantastic memories of our time together. But it is funny how the little stuff is really where I truly miss her. For example, she would follow every flight I took. She would pester me for my itinerary and then literally watch my fight go across the country. No matter where I landed, there was always a welcome email before I got off the plane. Or a “wow that is a long layover hope you have something to do” email. I never really appreciated that little communication of caring until I flew this past weekend and there was no email…it truly is the little things that a person does that makes the biggest impact in another’s life.

I urge us all to find something little to do for someone else daily. If we all can make someone’s day a little better then Bucky will truly live on forever. Because that is her legacy, her kindness and compassion for everyone and everything.

I hope she knows how much she truly meant to me and to my family, and how truly missed she will be. Remember the good and take time to tell your loved ones how much they truly mean to you. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roberta’s name may be made to the Philadelphia Zoo (https://www.philadelphiazoo.org/) or Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees, NJ. (https://www.awanj.org/).

Robert H. Dilks, M.D.
Age: 77, of Haddonfield

Robert H. Dilks, M.D., (Bob) passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, surrounded by family. He was the devoted husband of Connie (nee Hughes), a cherished father to Michael, Andrew and his wife Shelly, Katherine and her husband Andrew. Bob is also survived by his grandson by marriage Ethan and was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first granddaughter, Chloe.

A highly respected Obstetrician/Gynecologist, Bob spent many years at Associated Specialists for Women’s Health in Washington Township. He found great fulfillment in delivering babies and providing compassionate care to women throughout their pregnancies. His dedication to his patients and their families was evident in the lives he touched over the years.

In addition to his medical career, Bob was a man of commitment and service. He was an active member of the Rotary Club and of Haddonfield United Methodist Church. At the church, he served as a visitation minister, participated in a Connect group, and was a loyal member of the church choir, master chorale and bell choir.

Bob’s love for music was a defining part of his life. He began playing the piano at age 6, later learning the organ. Bob would occasionally play preludes and postludes on the organ for church services as well as play piano for Saturday evening services, sharing his musical talent with his church community. Music brought him great joy, and he passed that passion on to his children by encouraging patronage of the arts, music lessons and making four-hand piano a regular family activity.

Bob was also incredibly proud of his family heritage, tracing his lineage in the United States back to the time before the Revolutionary War. He loved to share stories of his family history, along with his knowledge of history, airplanes, and many other topics, offering a wealth of both practical and trivial wisdom to those around him.

Even with his long hours as a physician, Bob remained deeply involved in his children's lives, coaching soccer, participating in Boy Scouts, watching the Phillies play but only enjoying it when they were winning, and forever asking everyone to pose for pictures or sit down for slide shows whether they wanted to or not. He would also frequently travel with his wife and family to experience new cultures and places. He was a devoted father and husband, always eager to share in the joys and experiences of his family.

Bob’s kindness, generosity, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Bob’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, July 12th, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM in the Sanctuary of Haddonfield United Methodist Church (29 Warwick Road, Haddonfield, NJ 08033), where his Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 AM. A live stream may be viewed at www.haddonfieldumc.org. Interment will be private.

Elaine H. Sandmeyer

Elaine H. Sandmeyer, age 92, of Moorestown, NJ, died on June 25, 2025, surrounded by family. Formerly of Haddonfield and Haddon Heights, NJ and Greenock, PA, she was the loving mother of Ronald P., Jr. (Alice), Rodney (Tracey) and Richelle Sandmeyer Maestro; Treasured grandmother of Paul (Liz), Rebecca (Sheldon Lavis), Lindsay (Kevin Stauffer) and Diana (Eddie Dranoff); step-grandmother of Kathleen Carr (Aaron Miller), Jack Carr (Lizi Rosenfield), and James Carr (Brenda Ni); Cherished great grandmother of R.P. and Harper Sandmeyer, and Tessa and Owen Stauffer; and step-great grandmother of Nina Carr and Frannie Carr Miller. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 71 years, Ronald P., and brother Jack Holsing.

Elaine, the daughter of Clyde and Alice Holsing, was born and raised in the small western Pennsylvania town of Greenock. After graduating from McKeesport High School in 1950, she began working as a bookkeeper. In September 1953, Elaine married the love of her life, Ronald P. Sandmeyer, whom she was introduced to by a friend at the Erie Zoo. They began their life together at Washington & Jefferson College, where Elaine worked while Ron started school. Less than a year later in the summer of 1954, while expecting her first child, Elaine moved to the Philadelphia area where Ron accepted a job with the recently founded Sandmeyer Steel Company.

The saying “behind every great man is a great woman” aptly described the relationship between Elaine and Ron. While Ron was working long hours, Elaine was working just as hard behind the scenes, managing a household which grew to three children. Elaine’s strong but quiet presence was instrumental in the collective successes they enjoyed during 71 years of marriage. She truly was “the wind beneath Ron’s wings.”

Elaine enjoyed many sports. She enjoyed playing golf at Tavistock Country Club in New Jersey and Dorado Beach Golf & Tennis Club in Puerto Rico. She accomplished the remarkable feat of scoring two holes-in-one at Dorado Beach. She was an avid football fan and enjoyed watching football every Sunday. Her family knew not to call her during the games. She followed college basketball and was always the first to complete her March Madness bracket. She recently became a Phillies fan as well.

Although she enjoyed a very busy and active life, being with friends and family was Elaine’s most cherished time. Friends and family would use the words kind, caring, strong, dignified, gracious and elegant to describe Elaine.

She was the matriarch of the Sandmeyer family, always intimately familiar with what was going on in the lives of her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren and other family members. Affectionately known to her family as “GG,” she attended all of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and events and served as a leader of her children’s Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts troops. She was happiest organizing and hosting holidays and family celebrations, cooking and decorating with style and grace.

Her impact on people’s lives extended beyond her family. She was equally familiar with what was happening in the lives of her many close friends. She took great pleasure in sending notes and cards, offering words of gratitude or acknowledging the milestones and life events of everyone she knew. As she was nearing the end of life, a close friend wrote to her, “You have been a bright light in my life, one of those rare souls who leaves people better than you found them. Your kindness, your caring, your strength – it’s all etched into who I am now, because of how deeply you’ve impacted me.”

A woman of faith, Elaine was a member for 68 years of the Haddonfield United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School classes and Bible school for many years. She also attended the North Naples Church in Florida.

Elaine’s family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, July 8, 9:30 am -10:45 am, in the Sanctuary of the Haddonfield United Methodist Church, 29 Warwick Road, Haddonfield, NJ 08033, where her Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am. A live stream may be viewed at www.haddonfieldumc.org. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Elaine may be made to the Church at the above address, designated for the Ronald P. and Elaine H. Sandmeyer Building Preservation Fund (www.haddonfieldumc.org/give) or to the North Naples Church, 6000 Goodlette-Frank Road, Naples, FL 34109.

Eleanor "Norie" Wisniewski
of Moorestown, NJ;
Formerly a longtime resident of Haddonfield, NJ

Eleanor “Norie” Wisniewski (nee Berg) ascended into heaven peacefully on June 16, surrounded by her family and friends. Norie’s passing marks the end of an extraordinary life, full of genuine love and tireless service. Born in Darby, Pennsylvania in 1943, Norie attended Seton Hill University, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. After graduation, she taught elementary school in the Maple Shade School District, beginning her lifelong service to others. Norie married Frank Wisniewski, their marriage spanning 56 years. She was the proud mother of 3 children: David Wisniewski of Philadelphia, PA; Kimberlee DeWitt (Max) of Richmond, VA; and Karen Hussar (Andrew) of Dover, MA. Norie’s pride and joy were her seven grandchildren, Ellie, Max and Gray DeWitt and Drew, Sebastian, Sabrina, and Adeleine Hussar, who affectionately called her “Nan.”

Norie and Frank raised their children in Haddonfield, NJ where Norie was a pillar of the community. Norie served as the Executive Director of Interfaith Caregivers for twenty years and in doing so expanded and modernized a compassionate source of transportation and care for the elderly and incapacitated. Norie also devoted much of her time to Rotary International, promoting “service above self” both locally and globally. She participated in Polio Vaccination clinics in India and supported organizations like Amigos de los Niños in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Norie’s untiring efforts to better her community led to her being named Haddonfield’s Citizen of the Year in 2008.

Norie’s curiosity and adventurous spirit guided her around the globe – including trips to India, Egypt, Russia, Dominican Republic (building houses as a member of a yearly United Methodist Mission Team), Africa, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii and many visits to Disney World with her children and grandchildren. Despite these extraordinary journeys, Norie’s favorite destination was the beach. Any beach would do, but Norie particularly loved Avalon, on the Jersey shore, Port Royal Plantation on Hilton Head Island and the beaches of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Norie was happiest with her feet in the sand alongside her family and friends or reading peacefully in a red beach chair with a Hershey bar tucked in her red beach bag.

Norie’s love for and devotion to her family and friends was remarkable. All who knew Nan regularly received greeting cards with her signature red return address label. She never missed the birthday, anniversary or meaningful holiday of those she loved. The majority of Norie’s retirement years were spent traveling up and down Route 95, with regular stops in Boston, New York City, Silver Spring, MD, and Richmond. As her grandchildren’s biggest fan, Norie attended many sporting events, theatrical performances, and graduations. Notwithstanding her devotion to her grandchildren, Norie’s love and affection extended well beyond her immediate family to include her sister, Patricia Kelly, sisters and brothers-in-law, godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, colleagues and neighbors.

All are invited to greet Norie’s family from 9:30 to 10:45 AM and to her memorial service at 11 AM on Saturday, July 26th, at Haddonfield United Methodist Church, 29 Warwick Road, Haddonfield, New Jersey. As it was Norie’s favorite color, red will be featured prominently at the Service. Attendees are invited to celebrate Norie and her vibrant spirit by including red in their attire. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “Norie Fund” at Interfaith Caregivers, 20 Chestnut Street, Haddonfield, New Jersey. (www.giftofalift.org/support-us)
