Marvin Woolard, Jr.
Age: 87 of Lawnside, NJ

Marvin Woolard Jr. was born December 27, 1938 in Williamston, North Carolina to Marvin Woolard Sr. and Ella Woolard. He passed away on April 22,2026.

Marvin had a gentle spirit and a kind heart. He was a proud veteran who served his country with pride and dignity in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 – 1969, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant (E4) during the Vietnam War.

Upon returning to civilian life, Marvin decided to assist his father and brother with the family business (Woolard and Sons’ Demolition). He adjusted quickly to his new job and surroundings.
Though his professional world was one of demolition, Marvin himself was a serious collector of antiques. Many of his items consisted of potbelly stoves, golf clubs, irons, and toys. He always believed that another man’s trash would be his treasure.
Marvin also collected baseball, hockey, basketball and football cards.

He would spend Saturdays browsing card shows, flea markets and other venues for unique and unusual items.

Marvin’s artistry of care was most visible at his home in Lawnside, New Jersey. He was a resourceful man who took immense pride in his home and garden, ensuring that it was always polished and welcoming. He left his family with vivid memories of his beloved Navy Blue Cutlass and those unforgettable summer rides through Dayton, Ohio. When he was not tending to his home, Marvin was a loyal watcher and fan of the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and Cincinnati Reds.

Marvin cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Woolard (Nelson), His children, Rachelle Childress (Glen), Beverly Norvell, Benita Davis, Joseph Coleman (Kim), Yolunda Dews (Darrell), Marvin Woolard III, his sister Gloria Moore (John). Daniel R. Vining, Jr. Ph.D.
Age: 82 of Haddonfield

Daniel Rutledge Vining, Jr., age 82, of Haddonfield, New Jersey, died at home on April 19, 2026 in the care of his loving wife Motoko.

Dan was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas on January 12, 1944 to Daniel Rutledge Vining, Sr. and Margaret McClanahan Vining and grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia. He followed his brother Joe to Woodberry Forrest School, which memorialized his track accomplishments with the Daniel R. Vining, Jr. Track Award.

Dan also ran track at Yale University, graduating in 1966. While there, he took a leave of absence and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. From 1966 to 1968, Dan volunteered as a teacher with International Voluntary Services, which allowed civilians to work in war zones, unlike the Peace Corps. While teaching English at a high school in Vietnam, he mastered the Vietnamese language. This rare accomplishment aroused suspicion among some Americans that Dan was a CIA agent. During his time in Vietnam, he became disillusioned with the U.S. military after his American friend, a civilian, was killed, and Dan himself was almost shot, by a drunken U.S. soldier.

After living in Vietnam, he decided to see another Asian country to satisfy his innate curiosity. Dan taught conversational English in Japan and met his wife Motoko. He returned to the U.S. to start his family and complete graduate studies at Princeton and Carnegie Mellon.

Dan was an Associate Professor of Regional Science at the University of Pennsylvania from 1974 to 2006. Though thrown off course by a devastating stroke in his early 40s, he kept researching, writing and working with students until he retired.

He was an avid reader, NPR listener, and environmentalist – he delayed turning on the heat until November 1 regardless of the weather, and stopped eating meat and fish in his 70s. Dan worked with the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club to put a conservation easement on over 600 acres of Virginia land. He was frequently moved to write letters to the University newspaper, The Daily Pennsylvanian, about topics such as dripping faucets around campus. At home, he enjoyed pancakes, chocolate, the company of the family cats, and his wife’s garden.

Dan is survived by his wife Motoko (née Kashimada) Vining; children Margaret A. Vining (Arthur H. Bradford), Ella R. Vining (Peter C. Rock) and Daniel K. Vining (Susannah H.); grandchildren Elsie A. Bradford, Theodotia A. Bradford, Ida A. Rock, Miki F. Rock, Daniel H. Vining, Leigh R. Vining, Hanako M. Vining, and Akira J. Vining, and brother George Joseph Vining, III (Alice W.)

Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dan's memory to the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (https://www.patc.net/donate), 118 Park Street SE, Vienna, VA 22180, or Pinelands Alliance (https://pinelandsalliance.org/our-work/support-ppa/), 17 Pemberton Road, Southampton, NJ 08088.

Jeffrey Michael Andrus, 51, of Haddonfield, NJ, passed away April 14 after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer.

Born the oldest son of John and Penny Andrus, he was raised in Mendham, NJ. Always a good student-athlete, Jeff was a member of the Class of 1992 at Mendham High School where he was captain of both the basketball and baseball teams, receiving county and state recognition for his efforts. He matriculated at Lafayette College, where he joined the Zeta Psi fraternity and played a year of baseball before turning to more important matters. Too shy to approach a young coed wearing a Lafayette sweatshirt on the Avalon beach the summer before college, Jeff found himself, a couple of years later, set up on a date with Alison Murphy-the very same girl-at a party where roommates choose your match. They married in 2001.

After graduating from Lafayette, Jeff did a short stint as a reporter for the Express-Times in Easton, PA, and was a writer for Mealey’s Publications, before assuming the reins as Editorial Director of a start-up company, HarrisMartin Publishing. He successfully managed the company for 23 years. After moving operations close to the family home in Haddonfield, he and Alison eventually bought the company.

As a member of the Tavistock Country Club, Jeff honed his golf game using the hit-and-hunt method. Although erratic, his prodigious length off the tee allowed him to record the rarest of a golf scores – a double eagle 2 on a par 5.

Children Audrey, George and Ben were the center of Jeff’s universe, so it was no shock that Jeff jumped at the opportunity to coach them in the sports he played. But, nothing amazed him more than to discover he had two State Champion Cross Country Runners in the family. Even being confined to his wheelchair, eyesight so impaired he saw only blurred images, he wanted to get to the races, share in their success and let them know they had a father who cared. “What’s Audrey doing? Who’s running this week?” were always his questions and the answers made him smile.

From high school buddies to the Zeta Psi brothers, Lafayette classmates, and the Haddonfield “Ridge,” Jeff was fortunate to have shared his time with great friends. To his family, he was one you called on to officiate a wedding or make the toast; he did the clever mini bios in the wedding programs and could make you feel you knew someone after just a few sentences. He set the example for siblings, nieces and nephews, and was always there for both a good laugh and a heart-to-heart conversation. They all lost a go-to guy.

Jeff is survived by his wife Alison (nee Murphy); his children Audrey, George & Benjamin Andrus; his parents John & Pamela Andrus of Mendham, NJ; his sister Heather Boyle, of Fair Haven, NJ, and brothers Timothy John “TJ” Andrus (Reagen) of Georgetown, MA, and Michael Andrus (Katy) of Wayland, MA.

A remembrance gathering will be held on Friday, May 1st at Tavistock Country Club, 100 Tavistock Lane, Tavistock, NJ 08033 from 5-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Jeff may be made to the HMHS Boys Cross Country Track and Field Association (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=HTX3H29ALK4GS ) Donations may also be mailed: Payable to HMHS Boys XCTF Association, Inc., c/o Karinne Lindner, Treasurer, 40 Trueman Ave., Haddonfield, NJ 08033.

John David Reed of Haddonfield, New Jersey, passed away on March 9, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and passed peacefully shortly after his 69th birthday.

Born on February 22, 1957, in East Aurora, New York, John was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He touched the lives of many with his warmth, humor, curiosity, and gregarious spirit. John had an extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Handsome, charismatic, and endlessly charming, he combined a brilliant mind and disarming wit with a deeply empathetic heart. He was a generous friend whose laughter and presence brought joy to those around him.

After retiring on his 65th birthday— 02-22-2022 —he found his dream role working on the senior crew at Pine Valley Golf Club, where he took great pride in caring for the course he had long admired. Those peaceful early mornings, watching the sun rise over Pine Valley, became some of the moments he treasured most. His hole-in-one at Pine Valley remained one of his most cherished accomplishments. When he wasn’t on the course, John found equal joy in his garden, where he delighted in cultivating unusual trees and plants that reflected his love of nature and beauty.

John is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Susan, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and adventure; his cherished sons, Tyler Edward Reed and Gavin Oliver Reed (Maria); his brother Edward Reed (Connie) of Seattle; his sisters Dianne Severance (Eric) of Lake Tahoe and Amy Feagin (Jerre) of Loveland; his brother-in-law John Overbeck; and his adored nieces and nephews Jennifer Farina (Jon), Kate Senecal (Brian), John Overbeck, Liam Reed, Trevor Reed (Steve), Weston Reed (Erika), Sasha McKillip (Jeremy), Julia Coultas (Charlie), and Mia Severance; as well as great-nephews and great-nieces Ethan, Felicity, Sophie, Silas, and Jonah.

From his earliest days, John was a spirited original—a force of nature who lived a rich and full life. He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, his boundless curiosity, and the deep love he had for his family and friends.

John’s services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor John’s memory by living with love and joy, practicing kindness, appreciating the beauty of nature, and always looking out for one another—while never forgetting to laugh, have fun, and enjoy life.
