It is truly a blessing to see so many children smiling in our office on a daily basis. To know some have that smile given back to them by us is deeply emotional and the reason why we try so hard. This young 4 year old was ecstatic about his teeth 4 weeks after his procedure. We didn't even need to ask for smile to take some photos since he could not stop smiling!!

This case was completed by Dr. Safizadeh, one of our board certified pediatric dentists.

Claims are not processing but we received a sufficient enough emergency payment to continue seeing Masshealth patients. Below (in the comments) is the letter sent by the MDS president to the president of Masshealth recently. We are committed to advocating for our patients and keeping them aware of this awful situation regarding their insurance.

This Mom unfortunately had her previously root canal treated central incisor crack at the gum line this past mother's day. She called and we had her in 7am Monday morning. Dr. Safizadeh one of our pediatric dentist's was able restore her tooth with a fiber post and same day crown. He also completed a resin composite for her lateral incisor which had a large cavity as well. It is rare to find a pediatric dentist that has this skill set however years of treating teenagers with severe decay and CE (continuing education) courses in CEREC digital dentistry has made cases like this rather easy for him. We strive to be an in network office and accept Masshealth which means we treat cases like this often allowing us to gain valuable experience each time. Dentistry is an art form and a life long learning lesson. The goal is to achieve preps like shown and esthetic results like this 100% of the time.

For the third year in a row Hampshire Meadow Family & Pediatric Dentistry is a sponsor of Amherst Youth Baseball. We are also for the first time sponsors of Hadley's Cal Ripken Youth baseball league. Here is where we are at. This is an important message for all our Masshealth patients.

Masshealth has informed us of two things.

1. They are sending us one time emergency payment for claims from March 15th-April 7th. Their system is not able to process these claims yet which is concerning so it is an estimated payment. As of today we still have not received it but we were told by the end of the week.

2. We were informed that in 2 weeks claims will begin processing. However, we have seen dates be given and pushed back at the last minute over the last Month.

We are cautiously optimistic that Masshealth & Benecare (which we still barely have any true correspondence with) will honor its these commitments. We truly hope there is a true effort to resolve the situation.

It has been a tumultuous and emotional week. While we have yet to hear from BENECARE (the new masshealth 3rd party administrator) we have had a number of conversations with Masshealth representatives and they are trying their best to make an emergency payment to us by the end of the week. More importantly, they assured us that in approximately 2 weeks all claims since March 15th should be processing. While it is unbelievable how poorly this transition has gone and is going we will continue to wait patiently as we have. We currently will not be suspending any masshealth patients based on information that has been given to us in the last 24 hours. We would like to sincerely thank Representative Homar Gòmez, , for advocating for our practice and patients by directly contacting masshealth on our behalf. We will continue to update as the situation progresses.

We have some terrible to share for our practice and our patients. On March 15 2025, Masshealth informed us that the 3rd party administrator (the company processes the dental claims) will be switching from Dentaquest to BENECARE. We attended every webinar and prepared ourselves to the best of our ability for this change. We were assured that there would be minimal or no disruption to Masshealth payments for dental claims. Well we could never have prepared for the disaster that we are currently experiencing. There have been no claims that were submitted as of March 15th paid. It is currently April 27th. Our clinic which is one of the largest pediatric Masshealth providers in the area simply has reached a point where we cannot afford to continue seeing patients without timely reimbursement. Over the weekend Dr. Safizadeh has composed the attached letter and sent it to Governor Healy, Congressman Jim McGovern, and Hampshire State Rep Homar Gomez. It is with a very heavy heart that after this week we will not be seeing Masshealth patients for routine and restorative dental care as we simply cannot afford to continue patients without timely reimbursement. We want to be clear we are not dismissing our Masshealth patients. We also understand if some patients need to find other providers until Masshealth figures this situation out. Until then however we will be postponing all dental patients with Masshealth with the exception of our most vulnerable sedation patients that are already booked. We will be available for all patients for emergency/urgent care however we will be limited in the amount of treatment we can render at these appointments as well. We urge all our patients to contact your local and regional representatives and implore them to put pressure on Masshealth and BENECARE to resume payments. We have posted a few numbers below to contact.
