While in inpatient treatment at mountain Manor, I knew I wanted to continue my sobriety. I wanted to try somewhere I had never been for a fresh start. I choose Hagerstown MD. I had a recovery house in mind and my counselor thought there was a better option. Learning to take suggestions today I agreed with what he said. That choice was survival recovery. So we planned on interview with Kevin at survival recovery. Kevin has always been very respectful and good with communication.
One the first day coming to the house, I was helped by other clients to bring my belongings in the house. Immediately entering the house I was surprised. I have been a recovery house before but nothing as clean and nice as this one. Taking with Kevin he seemed like he honestly cared about everyone in the house and was clear he wanted to help in the process. My first day he made an appointment with his wife, who works for gatekeepers a program in Washington county that helps individuals looking for work and helps with resume. At first I thought this idea was stupid since I had only been a waiter my whole life. So I decided to follow another suggestion. Immediately Heather had me set up with interviews and had multiple jobs hitting me up often. On my 5th day at the house I had an interview with cracker barrel as a server and I got the job. Kevin and others at the house have helped me with food as well as they have donations that come to our house. Survival also has transportation that is set up to take you places you need to go, as well as take you to meetings. Over all I couldn't ask for a better sober house than survival. They have helped me so much in 2 weeks to get my life back on track.
Thank you survival recovery and Kevin

My name is Justin Wood. My clean date is June 27th 2023. Before that date I was using co***ne and Fentanyl. I’ve battled addiction since I was 21 with my longest clean time running 2018-2022. I relapsed back in 2022. During that clean time I wasn’t not working the program just working, and going home which is what led to relapse being complacence. During my relapse i crashed two vehicles and had no where to go with no job. I crashed my last vehicle on June 23, moved back into my moms trying to figure what my next plan was. I knew I had to get sober and regain my family’s trust. I checked into rehab, and during those 30 days one learned the program. As I was planning my next move I figured a structured living environment would be best for me since i really was never was taught how to live on my own sober and healthy. My case worker told me about Survival Recovery. And I had a phone Interview with Kevin. He asked what I want out of life and what my goals was. Which was to learn how to live sober. But what I didn’t know is I would learn so much more. August 5th 2023 I moved in Survival Recovery. I got a job at Ledos and was going to a meetings. I was doing what Survival asked from me and With In a month I got offered an assistant house leader position to help out with making things are being done at the house. Like chores, other little stuff. There surpassed expectations so he offered me the House leader position. Where I excelled even more. I drive the house van and help people with getting jobs, getting to a meeting every week. Also do intakes. I’ve always been quiet and stood to the side but since coming here to Survival I’ve learned that I’m more then a leader then I thought I was. People have came to me and told me that I was an inspiration to them, people are comfortable with coming to talk to me about what’s going on in their lives. I’ve become more than just a resident here. Survival has helped me grow and continue to grow and I’m excited to see what my next chapter in life will be. I’m not 15 months in clean I have a sponsor and I help Kevin with over seeing the male houses. My name is Justin and this is my story.
