“Why can’t I turn my neck today?”

Yeah… that stiff neck feeling isn’t just from sleeping weird—it’s usually poor posture catching up with you.

In this week’s blog, I share 3 simple neck stretches I teach every week at the clinic. These help release tension from the suboccipitals, upper traps, and levator scapulae—all those deep, tight spots that get stuck from tech use and bad sleep positions.

📍 Hagerstown, Halfway, and beyond—I help you loosen up and stay pain-free with smart, spine-friendly care.

In this new video, Dr. Walsh of Walsh Chiropractic & Physical Therapy in Hagerstown, MD breaks down what’s really going on when you feel pain, tingling, or numbness in your hands — and why so many “carpal tunnel surgeries” don’t actually fix the problem.

🔹 The real anatomy of the carpal tunnel — and why compression isn’t always the main issue
🔹 Why your neck and upper spine can cause hand and wrist symptoms
🔹 Common workplace mistakes that make wrist pain worse (like keyboard angle and posture)
🔹 Simple adjustments and therapies that can relieve pressure naturally
🔹 Why proper ergonomics and chiropractic alignment often solve what surgery can’t

If you or someone you know has been told they need carpal tunnel surgery — or if you’ve had one and still have pain — this is a must-watch before taking your next step.

Think of your nervous system as the electrical wiring of your body.

It tells your muscles when to move, your skin how to feel, and your organs how to function.

In this blog, I break down the 3 types of nerves—sensory, motor, and autonomic—and how issues like poor posture or spinal misalignments can throw the whole system off.

📍 Serving patients across Hagerstown, Leitersburg, and Washington County, I focus on restoring proper nerve function through chiropractic care and posture correction.

Sharp pain in your hip going up stairs? Burning in your elbow after work?

That’s not just “getting older.” It could be bursitis—and it’s one of the most common joint issues I treat here at the clinic.

In this new blog, I explain what bursitis actually is and how it affects the bursae (the tiny cushions around your joints), how it gets irritated, and the best ways to relieve it naturally—without meds or surgery.

📍 Whether you’re in Hagerstown, Maugansville, or Smithsburg, I help you move better with customized chiropractic and rehab strategies.

Let’s talk about ankylosing spondylitis.

This is a disease process of the spine that typically begins in men under 40, though it can affect women as well. What happens is the vertebrae — especially in the thoracic spine — start to fuse together. The posterior joints stiffen, motion is lost, and the spine becomes more rigid over time.

What can you do about it?
Right now, there’s no way to stop or reverse it entirely. But there are ways to slow progression and maintain mobility:
👉 Regular chiropractic adjustments to keep as much motion as possible
👉 Stretching and exercise routines tailored to protect mobility
👉 Foam roller extensions over the thoracic spine — using your arms as counterweights to open and extend the spine
👉 Lifestyle changes to reduce stress on affected areas

It’s not a fast process, but early diagnosis and care make a big difference in maintaining function and quality of life.

All right, let’s talk about the pelvis.

You’ve got three main positions it can sit in:
👉 Neutral pelvis (where it should be)
👉 Posterior pelvic tilt (tucked under)
👉 Anterior pelvic tilt (tipped forward)

Now, with an anterior pelvic tilt, here’s what happens:
⚡ The lumbar spine curve increases (hyperlordosis).
⚡ That jams the vertebrae and facet joints together.
⚡ The spinal nerves exit through smaller foramen (openings), which can increase nerve pressure.
⚡ The ligaments and tissues tighten, putting even more stress on the area.

Over time, this creates two big problems:

Increased force on the posterior joints. By Wolff’s Law, bone responds to stress by laying down more bone — which means arthritis.

Higher risk of nerve compression symptoms like pain, numbness, or irritation with movement or even impact (like jumping).

So what do we do?
👉 Look at the why — tight low back muscles, weak abdominals, ligament imbalances.
👉 Adjustments and soft tissue work to restore motion.
👉 PT exercises to balance out the pelvis and reduce stress.

Anterior pelvic tilt might sound like “just posture,” but over time it can really accelerate joint and nerve problems.

All right, so what is facet joint syndrome? Good question.

Each vertebral level in your spine has six joints:
👉 Two in the front (on the vertebral body)
👉 Four in the back (posterior elements) — two above, two below

The facet joints are those posterior joints, and when they get irritated or inflamed, that’s what we call facet joint syndrome.

Now, here’s the thing: inflammation can come from different tissues.
⚡ Sometimes it’s the ligaments holding bone to bone.
⚡ Sometimes it’s the tendons or muscles that move those joints.
⚡ And sometimes, it’s the bone itself — which, if it goes on long enough, can develop into arthritis.

So the big question is: why is it inflamed?

Is it repetitive stress or posture?

Is it weakness in the tissues that can’t keep up?

Is it an arthritic change building up over time?

What do we do about it?
👉 Rest, to let inflammation calm down
👉 Adjustments to restore motion and take tension off
👉 Exercises to gradually strengthen the supporting tissues
👉 Sometimes imaging (x-ray or MRI) to assess the extent of the damage

And don’t forget — Wolff’s Law applies here too. The more force the bone sees, the more bone it lays down. In the joints, that means arthritis. That’s why posture, movement, and proper support matter so much.
