Optimal’s May 2026 Employee Spotlight selection is Madison Sohne.

Madison started as a Coordinator of Community Services in the Southern Region with Optimal in November 2024. She was promoted to Resource Coordinator of Community Service in April 2026. She graduated from Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Disability Studies in 2020. Right before starting at Optimal, Madison was a Program Manager for a Group home. Madison loves how Optimal provides her work-life balance and that she isn’t tied to her desk. Her biggest struggle is keeping up with all of the changes in the DDA system.

Madison is from a small town in Pennsylvania but currently resides in St. Mary’s County. She is married to Ryan, and they have two children, Maverick, who is two years old, and Kinsley, who just turned four months old. They have a Pitbull named Rip, a German Shepherd named Diesel, and a disabled cat named Kitty.
Outside of work, Madison and Ryan like to play golf, travel, spend time outside, and visit with family. They have been to Cabo and Cancun and will be heading to Florida sometime in the next year. Madison is a lover and collector of Crocs. She owns between 20 and 30 pairs.

Learn About Upcoming Changes to the Community Pathways Program

Maryland’s FY27 budget includes changes to the Developmental Disabilities Administration Community Pathways Waiver—changes that are necessary to ensure the program can continue providing essential services to thousands of Marylanders with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Some of these updates also require approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. As part of that process, we encourage participants, families and stakeholders to submit public comment during the 30-day period between April 29 and May 28, 2026.

DDA is hosting the following webinars and meetings to walk through the proposed changes and what they mean. (Links to register are posted on our website: bit.ly/4cPeQnn.)

We will walk through the changes, including when they will take effect, and show you where to find more information on our website. You’ll also have an opportunity to ask questions.

The Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) provides services and supports for individuals with developmental disabilities—things like help at home, community programs, and resources for greater independence.

If you’ve been thinking about DDA services, it’s worth starting sooner rather than later ⏰

A lot of families put it off, but the application process can take a while—and when you actually need support, waiting can be tough.

When you apply, it really helps to have things like:
• your most recent IEP
• any psychological or school testing
• evaluations or reports that show current needs

Even if you’re not totally sure you’ll qualify yet, getting your foot in the door early can make things a lot easier down the line.
