🦷 What is a Pulp Stone?

A pulp stone is a calcified mass that develops within the pulp chamber or root canal of a tooth. The pulp is the innermost part of the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. Over time, minerals like calcium can deposit in this area, forming a hard structure called a pulp stone.

🔹 Causes: Pulp stones can be associated with aging, tooth injury, irritation from cavities, or sometimes they occur without any obvious reason.
🔹 Detection: They are usually discovered on dental X-rays during routine exams.
🔹 Symptoms: Most pulp stones cause no pain or problems and patients are often unaware they have them. However, in some cases, they may complicate root canal treatment if one is needed.
🔹 Treatment: Typically, no treatment is required unless the pulp stone interferes with dental procedures.

Regular dental visits and imaging allow us to monitor these changes inside your teeth and keep your oral health on track. 🦷✨

Our patients and team members highly recommend the Burst Water Pick. 🦷

Its design ensures thorough mouth cleaning.
The 360° rotating nozzle tips facilitate easy access to all areas.

It is particularly useful for individuals with bone loss/ periodontal disease, sensitive gums, orthodontic appliances, or dental restorations.

I’ve watched this play out too many times: someone brushes off a little bleeding when they floss, only to find themselves decades later with a stent in their chest.

When gums get inflamed, that tight seal between the gum and tooth starts to loosen. This gives bacteria from your mouth a direct route into your blood.

Once they’re in, your immune system reacts. Inflammation goes up, your blood vessels take a hit, and over time, this can help plaque build up in your arteries.

That’s why people with gum disease are at a higher risk for heart attacks and strokes.

Healthy gums aren’t just about keeping your teeth—they’re about protecting your heart.

Have you ever had a dentist connect those dots for you? Or perhaps you’re a healthcare practitioner interested in the mouth-body connection?

Barnum.

📖. In 1864, in New York, there was a dentist named Barnum.

At that time, the problem for all dentists during fillings was saliva, because it mixed with the amalgam or gold used in the fillings and ruined the result, and they would spend a long time drying the tooth with cotton rolls and small towels.

One day, Barnum was working on a patient and got fed up with the excessive saliva, so the idea came to him:

“Why don’t I isolate the tooth alone from the rest of the mouth?”

He took a piece of thin rubber (rubber at that time was widespread due to Goodyear’s inventions), cut a hole the size of the required tooth, then passed the tooth through it and fixed the rubber around the mouth using simple tools. Suddenly, he had a dry and isolated area where he could work comfortably.

The idea spread quickly among his colleagues because the results were clearer, and the fillings were more successful and lasted longer.
Since that day, the Rubber Dam has become an essential tool for isolation, and over time it has developed.

In short, a simple invention solved a big problem and was ahead of its time in infection control and controlling the work environment, even before anyone thought of gloves or masks.

The Rubber Dam was invented in 1864, and gloves in dentistry appeared in 1890, meaning there is exactly a 26-year difference, and the suction came about 60 years later.
