This is the final weekend to ride The Bike Hut Classic 2025! So far, 320 riders have raised $63k! We only have $7k to go to hit our goal of $70,000! Did you know that 100% of our proceeds go to Abundant Grace Coastside Worker for their workforce programs employing the homeless?!
We run a few of these programs on the farm behind The Bike Hut. Pictured here is one of our growing fields where we plant, tend and harvest 50 kinds of fruits and vegetables for Abundant Grace to give away for free at their twice-weekly farm stand. This transformative program gets many folks working again, builds confidence and connection, improves mental health, and feeds those in need.
Registration is open through this Sunday, July 20 (the last day to ride) at www.bikehutclassic.com.

It was another amazing weekend for The Bike Hut Classic 2025! We’re officially up to 293 riders and climbing. There’s one week to go, and we hope to see more registrants this week through Sunday, July 20.

The fastest time clocked thus far is Andrew Ernst (Men 30 - 39) of Cupertino, logging a lightening speed 30:42! Other notable times include Jackson Brody (Men 20 - 29) at 32:31; David Remahl (Men 40 - 49) at 37:10; Chris Kurrle still holding the lead for Men 50 - 59 at an impressive 33:01; Piet Canin topping Men 60 - 69 with 44:26; and Bruce Matheson riding Monday to lead Men 70 - 79 with 40:20! Perhaps one of the most impressive times was David Chazan (59:29), breaking the hour-mark in the Men 80 - 89 category! WOW!!!

In other news, Hana DeClerck (Women 20 - 26) leads Women overall with an awesome time of 41:22! We also had a wonderful Women’s Ride on Saturday (pictured above and below). I even dusted off my gravel bike and happily joined some amazing females - some competitive cyclists and others out for the social vibes, all of us in support of Abundant Grace! We toured the farm and then hit Tunitas, right as Menlo Bike Club was refueling at The Bike Hut before starting their BHC climb. Finally, we enjoyed popsicles at the top. It was an absolute blast! Thank you to all who came out to ride.

Meanwhile, we are at $57.5k of our $70k goal! We have been totally blown away by the efforts of two individuals in particular: Sean Johnston who has raised $4500 and Peter Heller (Allez! Allez! Allez!) who is up to $3090! Additionally, your clubs continue to fundraise as well. Here is our current standing as of Monday evening (not including dollar amounts brought in with registrations or sponsorship), a tremendous effort by all:

Team Sheeper $8275 (***Platinum Sponsor)
Alto Velo $5375 (**Gold Sponsor)
Western Wheelers $2425 (**Gold Sponsor)
Geezi $2325
KMCC $2250
Peninsula Velo $1775 (*Silver Sponsor)
Menlo Bike Club $1600
ACTC $1425
Santa Cruz Cycling Club $750 (*Silver Sponsor)
Over The Hill $725

And More, both with individuals and clubs!!!! Find both full lists on our event site. We are humbled and ever grateful by ALL of your support.

Riders may register and log their times at www.bikehutclassic.com through midnight on July 20. Until then, ride as many times as you like! Thank you and stay safe out there.

See you at the Bike Hut,
Suzie

A HUGE shout out to Team Sheeper for being a platinum sponsor of the Bike Hut Classic! We are incredibly grateful for the club’s sponsorship and the generosity of the members and their supporters who have collectively raised nearly $8,000 to support our work with the homeless community!
It’s been great to get to know many of you over the years and work together to make this a great event for all the riders. I’m so proud of what we are able to do together. Thank you!

We want to shine a light on two wonderful bike clubs sponsoring the Bike Hut Classic: Alto Velo and Western Wheelers. Their members not only support sponsoring, but are out there inviting others to support their ride and the work of Abundant Grace with the homeless community. And they have been doing this for years with dedication and love. Their great energy and compassion help make this such a special ride that benefits the community. It’s a lot of fun, and we get to meet the most wonderful people. Abundant Grace is so grateful!

Wow, what an amazing first weekend of The Bike Hut Classic 2025! There was so much buzz and excitement around The Bike Hut. We saw big groups, small groups, some who were out to set a PR, others in it for fun or to ride in support of Abundant Grace Coastside Worker and our workforce programs for the homeless.

There are already impressive stats for the ride, and I'll be making similar posts over the next couple of weeks to keep folks up to date. Be sure to make your Strava time public for the “Official Bike Hut Classic” segment so that we can view your results. A few highlights so far...

IMPRESSIVE TIMES:
Posting a very competitive time for Men 50 - 59 was Chris Kurrle, blazing to the top of Tunitas in 33:01! Other leading times include Matthew Younkins (“Matthew !”, 33:11) for Men 40 - 49; Michael Crager (42:05) for Men 60 - 69; and Fred Stamm (53:05) for Men 70 - 79!

The ladies were also bringing the heat for this kickoff weekend; Karen Brems is back again this year, setting the bar high for Women 60 - 69 with her time of 43:43! Madeleine Flint (46:09) leads Women 40 - 49, and Sarah Boucher (46:51) is out on top for Women 20 - 29.

In summary, we've kicked off the ride with some absolutely awesome times to set the tone of the 2025 ride!

IMPRESSIVE FUNDRAISING:
We've challenged you all to fundraise for Abundant Grace Coastside Worker, and two riders in particular are answering the call: Sean Johnston is the current Top Individual Fundraiser with $4100, while Peter Heller (Allez! Allez! Allez!) has surpassed his previous years of fundraising, bringing in $3050!

For one of the smaller clubs, Team Sheeper Triathlon is, yet again, the highest club or group fundraiser so far, raising $7850! Alto Velo Racing Team has also brought in a considerable and generous amount at $5300, and other clubs are making efforts as well: Geezi ($2325), KMCC ($1950), Western Wheelers Bicycle Club ($1650), Peninsula Velo ($1550), ACTC ($1125), and Menlo Bike Club ($825), among others. These group fundraiser amounts don't account for the funds brought in by registrations, and those will be tallied before we award the highest fundraising group. All proceeds go to Abundant Grace's workforce programs for the homeless, several of which take place on the farm behind The Bike Hut!

This is an incredible effort all around, and we are blown away again this year by everyone's participation! Thank you all so much!
Registrants have until July 20 to ride as many times as they would like. Register at www.bikehutclassic.com.

"Tunitas never fails to enchant me with the beauty of the redwoods, the sound of the creek, the twist and turns, and the happiness of reaching the top. It’s cool in the summer and protected from wind and rain in the winter... I invite everyone to ride the Bike Hut Classic. It’s a good challenge and a way to give back to our Coastside neighbors who help make our life as cyclists more exceptional. We’re all connected!"
