Texas Elite Therapy Team owners, Lauren Pasak and Katie Broom, believe in working as a dynamic team

Texas Elite Therapy currently services Lavaca Medical Center, Yoakum Community Hospital and Schulenburg Family, Fitness and Rehab. They are providing services for outpatient adults and pediatrics, hospital inpatients, and performing Modified Barium Swallow studies with the radiologist at YCH and LMC. Texas Elite also provides outpatient services for adults and pediatrics at Schulenburg Family, Fitness and Rehab. Texas Elite also offers Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES) at YCH and Schulenburg Family Fitness and Rehab Center as an outpatient service.

🗣️ Let’s Talk About Voice!
Your voice is one of your most powerful tools—and when something feels “off,” it can impact communication, confidence, and daily life. Voice changes—like hoarseness, strain, vocal fatigue, or trouble being heard—can happen for many reasons.

Common causes include:
🔹 Illness (colds, allergies, reflux)
🔹 Overuse or misuse
🔹 Vocal fold nodules/polyps
🔹 Neurological changes
🔹 Post-surgical effects
🔹 Stress or tension

🗣️ Is your child hitting their speech milestones?

🌟 Speech at Home = Progress that Sticks! 🌟

Parents — you play such a big role in your child’s speech success! 💛 Carryover happens when kids use their new speech and language skills outside of the therapy room — and home is the perfect place to practice! 🏡✨

Here are a few fun (and easy!) ideas to build carryover at home:
🗣️ Talk through daily routines — describe what you’re doing during meals, bath time, or play.
🎲 Play board games — practice turn-taking, answering questions, and using target sounds.
📚 Read together — pause to ask questions, make predictions, or find words with their “speech sounds.”
🎶 Sing songs and nursery rhymes — rhythm and repetition make speech practice fun!

💬 Practice therapy goals at home — use the same sounds, words, or language activities your child worked on in their session (like the ones listed below!).

Every little bit of practice helps their confidence grow — and helps those new skills stick! 🌈

🍽 Let’s talk diets! Speech therapists don’t just work on speech — we also help ensure patients eat safely. In hospitals and nursing homes, you might hear terms like regular, mechanical soft, and puree diets.Here’s what they mean:

🥦Regular: No texture restrictions — foods can be chewed and swallowed safely.
🍝Mechanical Soft: Foods are soft, easy to chew, and often chopped or ground for easier swallowing.
🥘Puree: Foods are blended to a smooth consistency for those who have more difficulty chewing or swallowing safely.

Each diet is carefully recommended to match a patient’s swallowing ability and reduce the risk of choking or aspiration — because safety (and enjoying your meals!) comes first.

“Hi, I'm Katie Broom, M.A. CCC-SLP, and I am a Speech-Language Pathologist and co-owner of Texas Elite Therapy Team. Lauren and I created this company to be able to better serve our community. We are so blessed to be able to do what we love in our home towns. I have been an SLP for 7 years and love being able to better support my hometown and surrounding areas with speech and swallowing needs. I am passionate about swallowing in all populations from infant to geriatrics. I am a certified lactation CLC and love being able to provide resources to local moms to help support their postpartum journey.

My favorite part of being an SLP is getting to learn more about our patients and their stories. I enjoy seeing our patients in our community events and consider every one of them part of our family. It is so rewarding to be able to treat individuals we know and trust so that they can have better quality of lives!

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and making memories outdoors hiking or swimming in a river. A fun fact about me is that I have 4 children ranging in age from 6 years old to 1. We love doing things outdoors and exploring new national parks as a family.

Helping kids explore new foods one texture at a time! 🥄

Sometimes what looks like “picky eating” is actually a texture aversion, where a child’s sensory system has a hard time processing certain feels, tastes, textures, smells, and more. Feeding therapy helps kids slowly expand their comfort zone with fun, positive food experiences while building comfort, confidence, and curiosity around eating!🥕🍎

"Hi, I'm Lauren Pasak, M.A. CCC-SLP, and I am a Speech-Language Pathologist and co-owner of Texas Elite Therapy Team. Katie and I are so blessed to be able to service Lavaca, and surrounding communities, for speech and swallowing needs. I specialize in swallowing disorders, including those resulting from strokes and head and neck cancers. I have been working in the field for 14 years.

My favorite part of being an SLP is being able to see patients in our community who we consider family and friends. It is so rewarding to be able to treat individuals we know and trust so that they can have better quality of lives!

Outside of work, I enjoy doing extracurricular activities with my kids. A fun fact about me is that my husband and I went on an unguided hunting trip for our Honeymoon and slept in a tent in the wilderness of Alaska for 10 days.
