For the very first time ever, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) will include the safety of people outside of vehicles in its assessment of safety by testing cars’ pedestrian-automatic emergency braking systems.

However, the proposed NCAP update does NOT include testing bicyclist-automatic emergency braking (AEB), which has been estimated to prevent or mitigate 50-80% of bicyclist fatalities!

Tell the NHTSA that cyclist safety deserves to be included in NCAP by submitting a comment via the League of American Bicyclists’ specialized comment form.

Some cool things are afoot up in Rockland—pedestrian pun totally intended!

According to a recent article in the PenBay Pilot, part of a proposed City-funded proposed beautification project includes "add[ing] sidewalks where people currently hug the roadway, and to add greenery and 'bump outs' for a parklet-like atmosphere in a region grayed with old brick and pavement."
