Something special has happened with me in the past few months. I’ve set out on a new professional path that feels very right, clear, and obvious – it’s the journey I’ve been traveling on for a long time and finally reached clarity on as to the path, purpose, and destination. I’d like to share this new path with you. Here’s how it came about…. As most of you know, I graduated as a Registered Nurse nearly 6 years ago. I’ve spent most of my working experience in the inpatient care in the hospital to build skills and foundation as a nurse. Though it was (and still would be) an honor to serve and care for those with chronic illnesses in the hospital, through maintenance and pain management, it wasn’t enough. Something inside of me was longing for a greater influence and had a vision for a better quality of life than a lifetime of pharmaceutical dependency for each and every one of my patients. I found myself asking, what could have been done to avoid all this? Prevention was the word and the key to my new-found healthcare mantra. Meanwhile, our precious Harlow came into our lives (and another one coming this June:). It was always a dream to be a full-time mom. Time with little ones is precious and fleeting (I want to embrace it while I can). The question was and continues to be: How do I satisfy multiple passions? To be an excellent wife; an excellent mother; an avid seeker for all things pertaining to personal growth; a fan of all things creative and beautiful; and last but not the least, an advocate for achieving the best version of ourselves through health, wellness, and passionate sense of purpose. One thing I discovered for sure is that I needed energy and good health to accommodate all my complexities and desires. I wouldn’t be able to accomplish success in wearing my multiple hats if I had negative foggy thinking, and lacked in vitality from poor sleeping, and eating habits. For the past few months, I’ve been discovering how to help myself and other women who are stressed out, busy mothers & professionals transform themselves….and their lives. After years of research in psychology, nutrition, and optimal performance, I’ve realized that it’s time to turn this passion into practical knowledge for the real world (AKA skills we can use in our everyday life that will help reach a healthy weight, gain energy, and transform our body and lives!)
In addition to working in the preventive aspect of Nursing, I’m officially launching myself as a Health Coach. Here’s what a Health Coach is…. With the relentless demands of work and life responsibilities, what we women are doing to try to transform our bodies is no longer working and we’re looking for something greater. Sometimes women (& men) don’t know what to do to change their bodies, but more often it’s that we’re stuck in a rut and don’t know how to get out of it. 95% of our behavior occurs out of habit, either unconsciously or in reaction to external demands. That’s why we struggle to make changes that last. Even when the need for change is obvious and our intentions are strong, we often fall short. That’s a problem, and all the diet industry can offer is “Eat fewer calories and exercise more.”
If that worked, it would’ve worked. Did you know that 98% of all dieters gain the weight back? And that the average person makes the same New Year’s resolution ten separate times without success? Because they don’t have support or accountability. Doctors, dietitians and other practitioners either don’t have the time or the skills to help people stay motivated and follow through to get a lasting result. So people default to their set habits, even when they know those habits make them feel lousy. Without support and accountability, this dysfunctional cycle will continue and in many cases, get worse. That’s where HEALTH COACHES like me come in, to provide the right SYSTEM, SUPPORT and ACCOUNTABILITY so you can - finally - make a total body transformation.

Happy Testimonial Thursday— I just love this work. It’s such an honor to be a part of the journey to look in and sort through everything that a mom-to-be is thinking and feeling, especially the fears and be able to face them. To create a roadmap from where she is to her birth vision. From the words of my sweet lady here—-“We were able to know the answers I needed instead of this “shapeless” fear or worry that plagues.” Prenatal coaching sets you up for success. “It’s nice to say “here are my goals” and be able to feel reaching those goals and I attribute that to Rose and our prenatal coaching sessions.”

It’s not really like the movies! It’s not a car wreck. It’s not a disaster. With the proper steps, it can be a beautiful experience. Yes, there are aspects you can’t control— but you can control how you react and how you will show up. It takes mental, spiritual, emotional and physical preparation to achieve your unique desired experience. It takes more than being taught the basics of “what’s going to happen”. Explore and understand your tools within your body and outside of it; surround yourself with a supportive birth team that respects your wishes and needs. Every birth story is unique, and yours can be a positive and empowering one. Engage and see what you’re made of.

Always show up believing what you can do, what your body is designed to do. What resources are available to help you to DO. You’re unstoppable. Fear causes tension— and the body does not lie to itself. Fear does not help. Ease your mind and your body will be at ease.

The biggest thing people ask about birth is the pain. It was mine for sure! I felt like it was this external entity causing ME pain. But when I saw this..that it is MY power..it was a game changer.

How do you tolerate?
How do you handle?
How do you survive it?

Well guess what: Labor Pain is NOT the same as broken bone, wound gaping open, getting punched in the nose..or in other words pathologic/problematic pain!

Your body is not broken! There is nothing wrong.

Labor P.A.I.N. is:

Purposeful
Anticipated
Intermittent
Normal

If you internalize that and work with it...your body will give back rewards: nature's narcotics.

Let labor begin on its own.

Just as flowers in the same bush grow at different rates, same as babies.

We don't pry open a flower bud to force it to open. They open on their own, at the perfect time. If we force it before it's ready, there's a risk of wrinkling or ripping the petals or worse, plucking it off altogether.

Babies know when they're ready. They signal the mom's body to prepare for labor.

Due dates are simply estimates.

For a normal & low risk pregnancy: If all is well per monitoring and prenatal checks---viable healthy placenta, baby tolerating & growing well, mom's health is optimal, no medical risks (Eclampsia, Gestational Diabetes, etc.) , then all the more worth waiting for nature to do the magic.

...and be subject to be ACTED UPON. Rather than be an AGENT of oneself. •This applies with time, money, energy, emotions...

We should always be weary and vigilant as to what we feed ourselves mentally, emotionally, physically. Because a slow track to the wrong path...is the most dangerous. •

-Why do you feel the way you do? (sympathy & empathy)

Knowing and periodically checking on our WHY not only keeps focus, gives clarity and direction, but also SELF-VALIDATION. Receiving validation or LACK THEREOF,  is the reason we do, or think, or feel most, if not all things, don't you think? IT is what motivates us. IT is what moves us or stops us. Progress, stagnantcy, or regress.  Knowing THE WHY of others helps too. •
This is essential for parents/caregivers too. When my husband and I have those parenting pep talks about our kids when thinking about what a crazy scary world it is out there! You just want to keep them in a bubble! But we realize if we teach our kids THE WHY...the reason behind the rules and principles we are trying to teach them, then we can try our best not to lock them in the house to keep them safe.  We don't have to stalk them everywhere they go to make sure they make the right decision.  We will just have to trust and respect their agency. Trust that the knowing, understanding, respecting THE WHY will become their own sense of direction and validation that will continually help them progress in the right direction.

We all have our reasons. Reasons why we are happy or worried or bitter or happy. And those reasons are powerful driving forces. And more times than not, not knowing the reason, or even HIDING it from OURSELVES and others, can become detrimental, losing the authentic self, becoming buried in artificiality, causing disconnect and the rest follows-- self worth, self confidence, self love. And when this happens...it is a sad story. One becomes a rock, a ship without an anchor.  Lost and and to be acted upon. More on this on the podcast (coming soon). •
