Three years ago, I opened my space to clients for the first time. Thank you to everyone who has been a support to my practice these past three years. May it be here for thirty more.

After watching some of the testimony in the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard case, I feel it important to unequivocally state that my practice is here to listen to and validate the pain which so often is present for those with emotional regulation disorders. You will never be told you are overexaggerating here.
While I understand the role that Dr. Curry was put on the stand to carry on, it is still incredibly damaging, in any capacity, to refer to the experienced pain of those who have suffered trauma as overexaggerated.
Thanks for listening.

On Trans Day of Visibility, my practice supports the civil and legal rights, and the liberation of all transgender people worldwide.
Trans Day of Visibility is an opportunity to celebrate trans joy and uplift trans lives in the midst of ongoing fatal violence and legislative attacks against our community unlike any other time in history.

Attention all CT providers: If you've been frustrated or enraged by your and your clients' treatment by Anthem and other insurance companies, you won't want to miss this free event.
D. Brian Hufford, the head of the health insurance litigation practice at Zuckerman Spaeder LLP and the leader of the group that successfully tried the Wit v. United Behavioral Health case, will be talking about Wit and its implications; other issues of import to behavioral health providers, including possible ways to address inadequate behavioral health networks and reimbursement; and how providers in Connecticut and elsewhere can push back against managed care abuses. Includes time for Q&A.

”I describe family values as responsibility towards others, increase of tolerance, compromise, support, flexibility. And essentially the things I call the silent song of life-the continuous process of mutual accommodation without which life is impossible.” - Salvador Minuchin
Welcome to the page for Nuevo Dia Family Wellness, and the office of Jorge Fernandez, LCSW. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over twenty years experience in offering individual and family therapy, across the age spectrum, in a Spanish-bilingual setting. I've worked in office, clinical, and home-based settings in Connecticut, New York City, and Miami, FL. I've also received specialized training from both the Minuchin and Ackerman Centers for Family Therapy, as well as specific training on working with families of adolescents exhibiting problem sexual behaviors.
As a therapist, it is important for me to establish a mutually respectful relationship with you. This means that, while I may have the fancy letters after my name, you are also the expert on yourself and your family. We work together, and as hard as the other, towards change. I do not talk down to you. I talk with you.
My office is located in northern Hamden, near the I-91 Connector, as well as along the Whitney Ave. bus line. My office is spacious, able to accommodate an entire family for sessions, and features both a separate waiting area, as well as a children's space, with educational and sensory toys, as well as a DVD player and video game system for looking to turn off their brains a bit while they wait.
I am currently accepting the following insurances, with more to be added in the coming weeks:
Husky
Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield
Private pay
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, or in order to see if we're a good match for treatment. I look forward to speaking with you.
