The goal of all trauma treatment is not to be super relaxed and calm all the time.

Depending on the type of reaction that you are most prone to after having experienced a trauma and being triggered will dictate what kind of healing your nervous system needs.

Absolutely, some people who are prone to fight or flight responses will absolutely need support to dial down those reactions so they can access their window of tolerance and make choices about their behavior and communication.

However, people who are prone to freeze and fawn reactions may need support to actually turn on bigger behaviors and their ability to communicate at all when they've been triggered.

They may need to be more ACTIVATED but in a different way.

This is how trauma specialists meet people where they're at to support them in embodying their fullest and truest selves.

Head to my website for a free 15 minute consultation to see if we'd be a good fit to work together.

One thing I'm not going to do is tell you when and how to put down your trauma reactions.

They are built into our nervous system to help us survive and they got you this far in life.

Clearly if you're coming to therapy it's because some of those reactions no longer serve you and the way they did in the past and perhaps they're getting in the way.

My job as a trauma therapist is to help you have more choice. To help you regain agency so that if you are triggered you are able to decide how to respond. But specially for people who are facing danger, who are facing ongoing trauma, who are experiencing discrimination, and other kinds of identity based violence, I am not going to tell you to stop responding the way you need to to keep yourself safe.

I will help you with discernment.

I take this approach both in therapy and in testing. Looking at how our systems respond to trauma and how that impacts our current experiences and symptoms.

I have a few openings for therapy and even more for testing. Head to my website and schedule a free brief consultation and let's talk about the possibility of working together.

You know I want you out of therapy, right?

Only half joking lol.

For real tho. I want you achieving your goals, building skills, decreasing symptoms and to G**O.

Jk I want you to stay in therapy ONLY as long as you need it.

For some that's a couple of months. For others its longer-- and this depends on factors such as the severity of what you are experiencing, your proximity to danger and oppression, and sometimes subsequent stressors or trauma.

This continues to be an open conversation between us throughout our work together.

And I LOVE when people end a course of treatment with me but then reach out again in the future. Because to me, this also means they learned when its time to ask for support. And that is such a critical life skill.

Oh and for testing? You'll get such a thorough eval that whether you meet criteria for ADHD or Autism or not, the recommendations I provide will be super specific and will likely enhance your current treatment to help you achieve your goals.

Curious about working together? Sign up for a free brief consultation with me and lets see if we'd be a good fit!

Can't tell you HOW MANY PEOPLE I see who ask me to re-test them because they didn't feel their previous evaluator got the full picture.

Folks also say "I am so glad you are asking about masking because I was afraid I'd come to the eval and just mask and you wouldn't get why I am here."

Listen. I ask the questions.

AND I ask you to contact me AFTER the testing day in case you realize later that you were masking or using another coping strategies during the eval but didn't realize at the time.

I'm here for all of it.

So hop on a Free Consult Call with me and let's chat about working together.

✨ Clarity is powerful — whether you receive a diagnosis or not. ✨

Many adults wonder: Is it worth it to get tested if I’m not even sure I’ll receive a diagnosis?

If you experience things like chronic overwhelm, trouble focusing or finishing tasks, sensory sensitivities, emotional intensity, social exhaustion, or a lifelong sense of being “different” — and you feel compelled to know if you meet criteria — then testing is a good idea.

🧠 The value of a thoughtful evaluation goes far beyond the outcome.
It can offer language for your experience, validation for your challenges, and clarity about your strengths.
It can help untangle the effects of trauma, burnout, masking, or chronic overwhelm — and give you a clearer path forward, no matter the label.

Here’s how it works:
🗓️ Schedule a free 30-minute consultation
🧠 Book your one-hour virtual intake session
🧑‍💻 Complete your virtual testing day
💬 Receive a thorough and affirming report during your feedback session

💛 My process is virtual, adult-focused, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-affirming.

Recently while shopping for an outfit for a family member's wedding, I went into a small, local, boutique looking for some jewelry. I wanted some bangles to go with a dress.

After looking for a while, I started chatting with the lovely person working there. They showed me some beautiful bangles and then suddenly said, "wait, I'll be right back."

They returned with what you see in the pic above and said, "if you can get these on your arm, they're yours." I did and then *missing the point* asked how much. And they said, "no they're free, I got them for myself and they don't fit me."

I was really moved by this gesture, this gift. When I was purchasing the other things I bought I told them that I would like to pay this forward, keep the energy moving. My family member who is getting married requested donations to an org that is important to them as wedding gifts. So I told the person at the store that I'll add extra in their honor.

I'm telling this story here to also keep the energy of this gift moving.

When was the last time you received an unexpected gift?

When did you last give an unexpected gift?

How did those experiences make you feel?

What did they inspire in you?

I was reminded of Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer's description of the Gift Economy in her book Braiding Sweetgrass.

It is a critical element to bring into the new world from those who came before.

Last night was amazing. put on the Big Gay Cabaret and it was phenomenal. The talent, the calls to action, the stories of healing in q***r community...it was so beautiful.

These are the spaces we need to nourish now.

And to top it all off, I got to FINALLY meet in-person some badass colleagues who I met online-- even before covid lockdown (?) but never met IRL. It was such a joy to be in the presence of and the other Two Rebeccas, including .counseling These folks are out here putting in THE WORK to remove barriers to care for our LGBTQ+ siblings.

My partner, (a sponsor of the event) and I had a total blast.

CANNOT wait for more of Prism's community events. Keep an eye out and be sure to get your tickets to the Cabaret next year!

I cannot tell you how many people come to me curious about neurodiversity.

So many people live their lives silently putting in tremendous mental effort to get through each day.

They've become so good at it and done it for so long that it seems it's "just the way things are."

By the time someone comes to me however, they have reached a Breaking Point.

They're in a place of feeling
💥 Overwhelmed
💥 Over stimulated
💥 An ever-increasing need or desire to be alone
💥 Confused about why things have to be so hard.

They are burnt out.

If any of this resonates with you, let's have a chat.

Let's see if testing is right for you.
