Keep an eye on your salt intake! Too much sodium can raise blood pressure and put extra strain on your heart. Choose fresh foods over processed ones, taste before you add salt, and flavor your meals with herbs or lemon instead. Your heart will thank you! ❤️

If you have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, or AFib, you already know how it feels. There are ways to help you control it: While coffee and tea may have mixed research results, energy drinks and caffeine supplements clearly raise your risk of an episode—especially with alcohol. Along with staying active and eating well, resistance training is one of the best ways to reduce unhealthy fat around your belly and internal organs. By age 75, the average person has nearly twice the body fat they carried in their younger years. Too much, especially around the midsection, can raise your risk for diabetes and other health issues. The good news? It’s never too late to start. Even light resistance training—like bands, light weights, or bodyweight exercises—can make a big difference. Always check with your doctor when starting a new exercise plan.

What is peripheral arterial disease? Peripheral arterial disease or peripheral artery disease, both known as PAD, causes the arteries in your legs, arms, and other parts of your body to narrow due to atherosclerosis (plaque accumulation in your arteries). This causes poor circulation and can trigger problems like leg pain. If you suffer from PAD, you’re at risk for stroke, heart attack, and limb loss, so it’s important to reach out to your HeartCare Associates of CT cardiologist if you’re having symptoms. We accept all insurance.

Stay on Top of Your Health – It Matters! Keeping track of your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar is key to preventing serious health issues—and your doctor is here to help. In some cases, you may be asked to monitor your blood pressure at home, which provides a clearer picture of your health over time. Stress during office visits can temporarily raise your numbers, so home or in-store readings can be valuable. Be sure to jot them down and share with your care team. Call us for an appointment—we’re here to help you live better, longer, stronger; and we accept all insurance!

Very high triglyceride levels can sometimes cause breakouts around the knuckles of your fingers and toes, or even on your bottom.
