Congratulations to SSA Jesse Smith for receiving this month's Employee Shoutout!

SSA II, Holle Metz said:
"Jesse is so helpful and kind. She is always willing to go the extra mile, not only for those on her own caseload but for others in need. Most recently, Jesse took time out of her day and helped me move a whole bedroom of furniture. Her efforts are deeply appreciated by the individual who had nothing before this, and me!"

Thank you, Jesse, for going the extra mile to make sure those we serve are taken care of!

Today, Community Outreach Advocate Courtney Hineman traveled to Columbus to meet with Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities officials, Human Rights Committee members, and fellow DD advocates to provide feedback on the proposed DODD rule regarding the use of audio and video technology in intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual disabilities and in homes of individuals receiving home- and community-based services.

The discussion centered on how to protect an individual’s privacy while also allowing individuals to benefit from audio and video technology, a balance this new rule is designed to achieve.

DODD officials shared real-life scenarios and examples, prompting conversations about whether the use of audio or video technology truly benefits the individual while still meeting requirements for privacy, safety, and compliance with the proposed rule.

Courtney offered valuable insight, drawing from her personal and professional experience with audio and video technology to help evaluate these scenarios and ensure decisions remain individual-centered and rights-focused.

Thank you, Courtney, for being a strong voice for the BCBDD as well as individuals and families across Ohio!
