Douglas Fike

Douglas Fike, a cornerstone of the Hamilton community and a man who turned every stranger into a friend, passed away on March 5, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on May 13, 1936, Doug spent his life proving that one person’s kindness and humor could light up an entire city.

Doug didn’t just live in Hamilton; he served it. In the 1970s, he was a dedicated member of R.E.A.C.T. (Radio Emergency Associated Communications Teams), providing a vital link for public safety. His leadership extended to the Hamilton Civic Association, where he served as President, working tirelessly to better the community he loved so dearly.

To those who knew him, Doug was defined by a rare, genuine warmth and a quick wit that could put anyone at ease. His true legacy, however, was built on the sidelines and in the dugouts of local parks. As a mentor and coach for youth baseball and soccer, Doug taught generations of young athletes far more than just the rules of the game. He taught them about integrity, sportsmanship, and the importance of showing up for one another.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Fike. Doug is survived by his daughter, Sandy Oakes and her husband, Randy, and his son, Tim Fike and his wife, Carla. He was the proud grandfather of Jon Randal Oakes and his partner, Kaleigh Kinser, Danny Oakes and his wife, Stephanie, Brittney Quick and her husband, Freddie, Michael Fike, and Madeline Fike.

His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Parker, Tanner, and Tucker Oakes; Brenleigh Kinser; and Isabelle Quick and Ethaniel (Spike) Conley.

Doug’s life was a masterclass in community spirit. Whether he was leading a civic meeting, responding to an emergency call, or coaching a Saturday morning game, he did it with a heart full of kindness and a joke ready for anyone who needed a smile.

Jesse Daniel Benoit

Jesse Daniel Benoit passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2026 and, in doing so, left us a simple directive: "March forth". He was a dedicated, gentle, and generous man. In dying on the only date on the calendar that is a call to action when it is spoken aloud, he gifted us with a permanent reminder of his wish for us - that we move forward together and continue to build and celebrate the lives that we had shared with him and each other.

He was born in Tallahassee, FL on November 1, 1982, the youngest of four boys who would later be followed by their only baby sister. During his middle school years, his family relocated to North Adams, MA where he graduated from McCann Technical High School and he stole the heart of the girl who would follow him around the world. They married at nineteen, he joined the Air Force, and they lived happily and grew their family as the military shuffled them from place to place: Dover, DE. Yokota, Japan. Salt Lake City, UT. In 2013, after earning a degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology from the Community College of the Air Force, he retired and they moved their family to Cincinnati, OH. It was there that they bought their forever home and affectionately dubbed it "The Burrow". Jesse had a deep-seated desire to help people that manifested itself as a post-military career in IT helpdesk, which he found fulfilling (even if he did occasionally mutter, "Did you submit a ticket?" and "Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again?" in his sleep).

A self-proclaimed nerd, he loved Star Wars, video games, board games, and horror movies: essentially, he loved to play. He was creative and loved to create cosplays from scratch to wear to conventions. He taught himself how to sew costumes and crochet. He found joy in everyday things and he readily shared this joy with his wife and his children and his friends. He was proud of the fact that we cultivated an environment of laughter in our home and he worked every single day to be a better dad than he had been the day before. He even got ordained in order to perform his daughter's marriage ceremony last fall. Being a dad was his calling and he excelled at it.

As cancer took him from us far too soon, Jesse's "survived by" list is very long: his wife of twenty-four years, Reece Benoit; his three children, Riley (Will) Fenton, Maxwell Benoit, and Wesley Benoit; his bonus-kid/sister-in-law, Taylor (Ezra) Dennis; his parents, Barbara Lampron of North Adams, MA, Jeffrey Benoit of Cincinnati, OH, and step-mother Marcia Benoit of Chattahoochee, FL; his siblings, Josh (Kelli) Benoit, Jonas Benoit, Josiah (Kimberly) Benoit, Heidi (Jason) Cooper, Cherie (Tom) Vuong, and Kerri (Michael) Taddia; many nieces and nephews; and too many important extended and chosen family members to name.

Jesse's death did not come as a surprise, as he was given an eighteen-month prognosis back in 2024. We decided as a family that we wanted to celebrate him while he was still with us and held his FUN-eral on September 13, 2025 - eighteen months from the day he was given that prognosis. His family and friends did not disappoint - they traveled from all over the country to come and dance, share stories, play with balloon swords, and even get matching tattoos with him. He was thoroughly celebrated and loved. His burial at Heritage Acres Memorial Sanctuary will be a private event.

Jesse spent two summers of his youth in Haiti with an organization now called "The Haiti Plunge", helping to build schools and hospitals. This cause has always been dear to him and we request that donations be made in his honor in lieu of flowers. (https://www.thehaitiplunge.org)

We also request that whoever reads this joins us in following his directive, on his behalf: Find joy and march forth.

03/02/2026

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate Ricky Lynn Bunger—a husband, father, proud Papaw, great-Papaw, and faithful servant whose love and laughter will be remembered for generations. While surrounded by family, Rick went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2026 after his battle with cancer.

Rick was a family man. For 54 years, standing beside Pam, the love of his life, through every season. Their marriage was a testimony of commitment, laughter, partnership, and love. As a dad and Papaw, he was his children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan. Whether at a sporting event or school program you could always count on hearing his loud cheers and unmistakable whistle ringing out. That whistle wasn’t just loud—it was full of pride, encouragement, and unwavering belief in the ones he loved most.

Rick was also a dedicated and hardworking man throughout his career. He retired after 36 years from Ford Motor Company, where he was known for his skill, strong work ethic, and the occasional naps. He took pride in providing for his family and, despite early mornings, long shifts, and countless hours, he still showed up for his family and never missed a game or event.

He loved the outdoors, spending time in Texas, and fishing with his children and grandchildren. After three years of chasing a legendary bass, he finally reeled it in just one day before his diagnosis—a victory his family will always cherish as a testament to perseverance.

A devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and Arkansas football, Rick enjoyed life’s simple pleasures: riding his Harley with friends, playing games with the family, having taco nights, drinking sweet tea or black coffee with a 25 cent Little Debbie cake. He loved setting up the Christmas houses and making the village for all to see. He enjoyed church leagues of blitz ball and bowling, and loved putting on a comedy show for the church ladies dinners. Most days, you would find him in his cowboy boots—boots that weren’t just footwear but part of who he was.

His faith was the cornerstone of his life. After seminary, he served leading music, teaching Bible classes, and mentoring youth at church camp. He loved using acrostic poems to make his preaching memorable. He lived what he taught: show up, serve God faithfully, love deeply, and cheer loudly..

Though he may no longer be whistling from the sidelines or spending his days at sporting events, his legacy continues in every lesson taught, every cheer shouted, every hymn sung, and every family story retold. His life was marked by his faith and love in God, humor, loyalty, and a wholehearted love for family.

He was a husband, a daddy, a papaw, a teacher, a leader, and a friend. And he will be missed by everyone beyond measure.

Ricky is survived by his wife of 54 ½ years, Pam Bunger (Gadd); his daughters, Rachel Bunger, Rebekah (Mike) Bridge, Deborah (James) Evans and Leah Defrates; his grandchildren, Alan, Zachary (Macayla), Alexa, Chloe, Athan, Cayden, Payton, Annalyse, Xayden, Adalynn, Paisley and Marissa; his three great-grandchildren, Blake, Callie-Jean, Larkin and one on the way, Ella; his siblings, Ronnie (the late Donna) Bunger, Renee (Bill) Trussell and Randy (Betty) Bunger; and many nieces and nephews. Ricky was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bobbie Bunger; and his sons, Nathanael and Aaron Bunger.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio 45013. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Scott Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park.
