John Fee Gibson

John Fee Gibson, age 92 of Hamilton, was called to heaven to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. John was born at home -- ten miles north of Barbourville, KY, on the original wilderness road, on September 24, 1933.

The Gibson family moved to Ohio when John was seven years of age. He attended the Hamilton public schools and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1952. Mr. Gibson served an apprenticeship as a tool and die maker and earned his living at that trade for several years.

His early years of riotous living and debauchery ended abruptly with John’s self-proclaimed "renewal of the mind" and "a spiritual awakening." He later graduated, with honors, from the Ohio State University with a degree in education and was a lifetime member of the Golden Key National Honor Society.

John became an educator and taught various subjects in engineering and manufacturing technology at the Southern Ohio College, the Warren County Career Center and the Somerset Community College in London, KY. John suffered a stroke in 2001 and was forced to retire from academia.

John wrote two books during his retirement: "Oh Threats of Hell and Hopes of Paradise" was published in the summer of 2013 and "Hope Springs Eternal" was published in 2016. Both volumes are available in paperback and eBook from Amazon.com, as well as Barnes and Noble.

John is survived by his son, Glenn Lee Gibson; his grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. John is preceded in death by his beautiful and adoring wife of 25 years, Eva Joan "Joni" Gibson; his father, Ezra Gibson; his mother, Verna (Fee) Gibson; two brothers, Curtis Dale Gibson and Ezra Eugene Gibson; and his sister, Mabel Irene Stitzel.

A very spiritual man in his later years, John and Joni returned to the small community of Jarvis, KY. In 1989 where he re-modeled the "old homeplace" in which he had been born and raised. The Gibsons became members of the New Bethel Baptist Church at Cranes Nest, KY near his hometown of Barbourville. They loved this little country church and the down-to-earth people nestled there in the serene and peaceful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. John and Joni were born again Christians and loved to read and hear the word of God.

Serious health problems dictated the return of the Gibsons to the tri state area in July of 2004, where doctors and health facilities were more readily available. Joni died of lung cancer in February of 2006.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio. Burial will follow at Hickory Flat Cemetery.

Richard "Earl" Johnson

Richard “Earl” Johnson, 85, went home to be with the Lord on January 11, 2026, after he, along with the support of his wife, Fran, fought a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Born on May 9, 1940, in Somerville, New Jersey, to George and Hazel Johnson, Earl lived a life defined by love and devotion. While serving in the U.S. Navy and docked in Boston, he met the love of his life, Frances McCuen Johnson. It was truly love at first sight. After his honorable discharge, Earl and Fran settled in Hamilton, Ohio, where they built a beautiful life and family together.

Known affectionately as “Big Earl,” he was a big man with an even bigger heart. A true renaissance man, Earl was a designer, carpenter, electrician, car mechanic, wood crafter, skilled leather tooler, musician, licensed barber, Fairfield Rotarian, and a proud golfer with The Worm Burners. Above all, he was a devoted husband to Fran for sixty‑five years.

Earl was the best father his two sons—Richard Don Johnson (Mary) and Mark Randy Johnson (Dora)—could have hoped for. Later in life, he found immense joy in being Papa to Austin Johnson (Eliza), Sawyer Johnson (Abby), and Carson Johnson (Stacey), and a great‑grandfather to Ezme, Ella, and Archer, with another great‑grandchild on the way.

In the mid‑seventies, Earl, Fran, Don, and Randy were blessed to be embraced as family by the Phipps family of Fairfield, Ohio. Bobby, Dale, Dave, Donnie, Charlotte, Carol, their spouses and children, showed through the years what unconditional love looks like and how friendship can last a lifetime. Earl also cherished his brothers-in-law Paul McCuen (Dotty), John McCuen and cousins, Jackie Bain and Melvin Spangenberg (Sharon).

A Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 9th, at Brown‑Dawson‑Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave., Hamilton, OH 45013. Visitation will take place from 10 AM to 12 PM, followed by a memorial service led by Earl’s son, Mark and Pastor Doug Dunlap.

Following the service, all who knew and loved Earl are invited to join the family at The Washington Event Center, 877 NW Washington Blvd., Hamilton, OH 45013.

In lieu of flowers, Earl requested that donations be made to either the Nuxhall Foundation to support the continued enhancement of the Miracle League Fields and programs, or to the Butler East YMCA.
