Arthur Allen “Steve” Carle, 87, of Oquawka, IL, formerly of Fountain Green, IL, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at his home in Oquawka. He was born on January 24, 1929 in St. Mary’s Township, IL, the son of Jerry and Gladys Parsons Carle. He married and later divorced Janice Ganion.
Arthur is survived by two children: John Carle of Oquawka, IL and Michael (Betty) Carle of Fort Madison, IA; two siblings: Maxine Johnson of Carthage, IL, and Jack (Shirley) Carle of Macomb, IL; 3 grandchildren: Jason Sutcliffe of Fort Madison, IA, Marty (Brian) Stoll of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Christopher (Heather) Carle of Marion, IA; a great grandson: Kaleb Sutcliffe; and very special friends, Diana and Robert “PeeWee” Foster of Oquawka, IL.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother Donald Gene Carle; a brother: Harvey Carle; two sisters: Juanita Manley and Dorothy Winking; and three brothers-in-law: Otis Manley, Tom Winking, and Bill Johnson.
Arthur attended Fountain Green High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving 1947 - 1950. He worked construction in his early years and at Wilson Packing Company for over 20 years in Monmouth, IL. He was of the Baptist faith. Art was an avid golfer and a member of Hend-Co-Hills Golf Course in Biggsville, IL. He also loved to attend flea markets where he bought and sold collectibles. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends. His family was the most important part of his life and he treasured the time they spent together.
Family will meet with friends on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 9:00 till 11:00 AM at the Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home of Hamilton, Illinois.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 12:00 PM in McConnell Cemetery in Fountain Green, IL with Pastor Bob Wagner officiating. Military Honors will be held at the graveside.
Memorials have been established for Henderson County Hospice, PO Box 220, Gladstone, IL 61437.
