Covid talk. Natural infection provides immune antibodies for protection for the majority of people (80%) with a protection rate of about 65%.

Omicron has many mutations of the spike proteins targeted by your immune system and the vaccines. The good news is that the virus area targeted by the slower responding T-Cells of your immune system has not yet mutated. This is expected to result in a higher rate of symptomatic infections even if previously infected or vaccinated, AND a low rate of severe illness leading to hospitalization or death if you have been previously infected or vaccinated.

If you’re planning to be fully vaccinated for 4th of July festivities, time is running out! If you get the Moderna vaccine (which requires two doses, four weeks apart), you need to have your first dose no later than this weekend. You’ll then need your second dose by June 20--and two weeks after that, you’ll be fully vaccinated.

If you get the Pfizer vaccine, you’ve got a little bit more time, but not much. Or you could get the Johnson & Johnson one-and-done vaccine at this week’s Community Vaccination Center clinic or Friday’s Pioneer Pavilion clinic in Ferndale and you’ll be all set. Don’t procrastinate! Vaccinate!

Please remember CFR will be artificially low during an upswing in cases (like we have had since November) because mortality numbers average 6-8 weeks after infection for Covid-19.

If you were wondering which group you fall into and the anticipated timeline for receiving a vaccine locally, here is a Montana update.

Our local Ravalli County Public Health started administering vaccine to 1A community care providers such as Acupuncturists, Chiropractors, and Physical Therapists on January 11, 2021. They are diligently helping our community move forward, and I thank them for their service.

On a personal note, if you are getting the vaccine, do consider which side you sleep on. The arm soreness was intense with pressure and otherwise mild. Sleeping was difficult every time I rolled over onto that arm. Choose your arm wisely.
