Many of you know, Yin Yoga has been my passion since my very first class at Beyoutiful Hot Yoga in Washington. Even when I completed my 200 hour Hatha training, I knew I would be more a Yin teacher than a Hatha one. A decade later I am still sold on Yin Yoga and proud to be a teacher who specializes in this style.
I have been in a new Yin Yoga Teacher training for a little over a year now with Shanti Atma Yoga - Yin Yoga Teacher Training School It's a 300+ hour training with 5 levels of classes. Why so many? Because there are 5 dimensions to teaching this incredibly powerful style of Yoga. Becky Khalil is the owner/lead teacher and I am going to let her words describe how important Yin training is:
"Yin isn't like other styles of Yoga.
(Well Yin isn't Yoga at all but that's a story for another day).
It's deep, introspective, and excessively healing... ...in just a few hours of practice you can see your entire wellness shift for the better.
The thing is though that most teachers don't actually know it's real potential 😬
I mean, they know it can take away physical pain, release emotional stagnation, move qi, open blood, stimulate fluid flow, calm the nervous system and ultimately move someone from survival mode into growth mode.
But that's not all....
Yin actually moves you through your brain waves, just as if you're falling asleep or waking you up.
It's in that journey that you become more suggestible to the subconscious mind and how you can re wire unconscious patterns.
Crazy right!? 🤪
Thing is though...
Having just anatomical knowledge ain't gonna cut the depth of teaching knowledge this requires.
Knowing the meridian pathways is meaningless to challenging and changing someone's brains.
Having an intellectual understanding without experiential training isn't going to get you far.
What's gonna make the difference is when you learn the different pieces of the puzzle, through the 5 dimensions of Yin, and start linking them together for holistic safety through your teaching 🕉
And that's what I call a Yin teacher who heals 🌙
Even if you've got 1000 hours of training in Yin but it doesn't go through the 5 dimensions (functional anatomy, Chinese medicine, neuroplasticity, emotional intelligence, mindfulness & yin philosophy), you don't have enough to out all of the puzzle pieces together.....because these puzzle pieces are intangible and invisible..
They reside mostly in the mental, emotional and energetic realms of the practice.
Love Becks ❤️"
This is why Yin Yoga is my passion, and I work to be the best, holistic Yin Yoga teacher I can be, bringing my students a safe, holistic experience of healing.
