My new moto “mini milestones”…

This photo was taken post 9 miles last weekend. The longest run I’ve ever completed. I’d say this journey started because convinced me I had to train for a half marathon since I did not get my Dallas Hyrox ticket but the truth is this journey started as a child… I know people think I am competitive based off how I teach classes, train/ work in the gym… but I’m really just competitive with myself. I train for the teenage me who struggled to finish her 2 mile soccer run in 16 min to make varsity every year because of “asthma.” Little did I know then if I just stayed in shape, I didn’t have asthma… I train for my kids who are watching me race, who have come with me to gyms since infancy. I do it so they know this is a lifestyle, not a job. I train for the 80 year old version of me, who I hope is still mobile, walking, lifting, maybe even running, living life hopefully like I’m 60 instead of 80. I do this for my husband, so we can enjoy our future grandkids together.

I push my own limits to see what I am capable of. It’s one of the reasons I compete alone, it’s not because I don’t like people, if you know me you know that’s not true. I’d rather workout in a room full of 50 people than by myself… But it’s because I’m always trying to better myself. I’m never just chasing the person in front of me (although sometimes I have to embrace those moments) but I’m chasing the old me.

Pushing limits does not look like leaps and bounds, it looks like small wins, mini milestones we surpass that keep pushing us forward. Each “mini mile” is a measure of progress, a tangible “result” that we get to celebrate. Every second faster, every rep or lbs added to a set, they are just mini milestones that show us that showing up everyday for ourselves is ALWAYS worth it. 👏🏻🩷

So today I’ll celebrate the win that instead of struggling through 2 miles @8 min pace at 16 yrs old, I can now go 9 at 36 🥹 (or 8.5 miles since my phone died and missed a half mile 🤪)

So what will be your mini milestone this week, this month or by the end of the year?
