The 224-bed hospital offers an eICU® to monitor patients even more closely with state-of-the-art equipment and computer software. It is also home to the Orthopaedic Hospital at Sentara CarePlex Hospital, the area's first dedicated orthopedic hospital, taking specialized orthopedic care to a new level.

Cancer screening is changing. We are proud to be part of that progress. And now, you can join us. 💛

We are proud to be part of the Vanguard Study, a national research effort to evaluate new multi-cancer detection (MCD) blood tests. These innovative tests can screen for multiple types of cancer—including bladder, breast, lung, and pancreatic—through a simple blood draw.

We're recruiting participants to join this cancer screening clinical trial. Adults ages 45-75 who have not had a cancer diagnosis in the past five years are eligible to enroll.

The results will help shape the future of early cancer detection and potentially change how cancer is first detected and treated.

⛳ Promoting health awareness at the course!

Sentara signs were spotted on the greens the Foursomes Fore Fatherhood charity golf tournament in Portsmouth, Va., promoting education on men's health topics.

“How often are you invited to connect with 130 Black men on a golf course?” asked Hill. “These are the exact opportunities Sentara’s health equity team is committed to. It’s about showing up in the community as a partner, a friend, not just a health system.”

We were a proud sponsor of the golf tournament where our health equity team shared resources, encourage open conversations, and be part of a community that’s rewriting the story on Black men’s health.

We wish you a healthy, safe and happy 4th of July! Here are some tips to stay safe from the beach to the backyard this holiday weekend:

🎆 Attend a public fireworks display done by professionals, and never allow young children to handle fireworks.

🏖️ Always be sure you see a lifeguard on duty, and never dive into the water head-first.

🛥️ Never drink alcohol when operating a boat or jet ski, and always wear Coast Guard approved life jackets.

🔥 Never leave your lighted grill unattended, keep it a safe distance from your home, and be sure to keep pets and kids away from the hot grill.

🔥 Keep perishable food (like meat, mayo-based salads and cheese) out of the sun, and refrigerate cooked or perishable food within two hours if kept at room temperature.

☀️ As temperatures rose this week, so did the excitement at our Sentara summer career camps!

Sentara Obici Hospital, Sentara RMH Medical Center, and Sentara CarePlex Hospital each welcomed local 8th and 9th graders for immersive, hands-on learning about the many career paths available in health care.

From nursing and respiratory therapy to surgical services, labs, logistics, and more, the students got an inside look at the people and roles that keep hospitals running.

Of the nearly 3,500 hospitals evaluated nationwide, only 32% earned this top distinction, making this recognition especially meaningful.

Shannon Martin, chief nursing officer at Sentara CarePlex Hospital, drove past four hospitals in pain—because she knew where she belonged. For 25 years, Shannon led her team with compassion, but in that moment, she became the patient.

After being admitted to the emergency department at Sentara CarePlex for back pain, Shannon underwent surgery to close an obstructed bile duct. A week later, she learned she had Stage 1 pancreatic cancer.

Throughout her treatment, Shannon continued working—supported every step of the way by the team she had worked with for decades.

We made history in 2000 by launching the nation’s first fully functional remote monitoring system for ICU beds, named the eICU, and have been expanding virtual care capabilities ever since. 💻🏥

Today, our eICU team of intensivist physicians and ICU nurses remotely monitors 132 beds across seven hospitals, providing real-time support and life-saving interventions for the most fragile patients.

Now, we’re preparing for a new chapter: relocating the eICU to a cutting-edge virtual hub at Sentara Independence in Virginia Beach, alongside our virtual nursing and remote patient monitoring teams.

Our inaugural Sentara Medical Group Advanced Provider Practice Conference—“Beyond the Basics, There’s an APP for That”—was a major success.

This was our first two-day event focused on providing continuing education for advanced practice providers (APPs), and it sold out with more than 150 attendees!

The conference featured expert-led lectures, hands-on procedural workshops, and breakout sessions covering key inpatient and outpatient care topics. Thank you to our 20+ exhibitors and all who helped make this event a success. and all who helped make this event a success.🙌
