Healthy Connections (HC) is a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) outpatient treatment division of the Western U.P. Health Department (WUPHD) that offers individual and group counseling, case management, and peer recovery services to adults who are struggling with alcohol or drug use. The foundation of HC is our belief that recovery begins with one positive connection and every person who walks in our door is treated with respect and compassion. Our team is made up of licensed and credential counselors, certified peer recovery coaches and caring, non-judgmental support staff. We accept Medicaid, private insurance, and offer a sliding fee scale based on income. No person is denied services based on their ability to pay. Healthy Connections has a Syringe Service Program called New Points, which is staffed by a Registered Nurse (RN) who provides sterile use supplies to people who inject or smoke drugs. Participants are always offered referral to treatment and a peer recovery coach often accompanies our RN to other counties in the 5-county region that WUPHD serves. We offer free Narcan as well as Narcan education and training to schools, universities, and other health or community organizations who request training. With State Opioid Response (SOR) funding we have added other services including a recovery drop-in center called the Connection Center where we offer a women’s support group, coffee and craft groups, and an Adult Children of Alcoholics/Dysfunction (ACA) meeting. We have monthly Saturday recovery events, such as hikes, picnics, co****le tournaments, and pumpkin carving. We offer support and education groups to men and women in Houghton and Baraga County Jail and provide transportation for clients. We know that providing a full circle of support gives people the best chance to live healthier, happier lives and every member of our team is committed to that goal!
