Mindfulness is great…if your body knows what safety feels like.

But if your nervous system never got that download, the usual tools can feel useless.

Like trying to meditate through a fire alarm.

That’s why I’m building something different.

Mother’s Day When You’re the Strong One
By Kristine Fotland
SUN MAY 11, 2025
Some Mother’s Days feel like flowers and breakfast in bed.
Others feel like silence. Or effort. Or exhaustion.
Today I’m holding space for the women who’ve mothered from the margins—
the ones who’ve held it together when no one else could.
The ones who’ve mothered children, clients, communities… often without being mothered themselves.
If this day feels tender, complicated, or numb, you’re not alone.
Motherhood is not one thing.
It’s many things, all at once: Fierce protector. Emotional translator. Soother. Advocate.
It’s giving when you’re empty,
And loving when no one taught you how.
Some of us are healing generations forward.
Rewriting patterns as we raise children who will never know the wounds we once wore as normal.
And that’s sacred work.
But it’s also tiring. And unseen.
And today, maybe you just need someone to say:
I see you. I know how much you’ve carried. I know how much you’ve changed.
You didn’t wait for permission. You did what needed to be done.
You mother with your presence.
With your willingness to feel.
With your refusal to shut down or pass it on.
That’s legacy.
That’s love.
And if you don’t feel celebrated today, I hope you’ll celebrate yourself.
Even if it’s quiet. Even if it’s just a breath.
Because you are worth that and more.
Happy Mother’s Day—especially to the cycle breakers, the space holders, the soft warriors.
Love always,
Kristine

Here we go! Fun fact, The last time I onboarded and did a big corporate training, my mom had two brain aneurysms…. About 12 years ago. It’s weird how some situations give you flashbacks. That was quite a trauma for all of us…. I can feel its remnants in my nervous system. Mom has a permanent shunt in her head now to reduce brain swelling due to overproduction of Cerebrospinal Fluid. Later, I became a body worker and a craniosacral therapist. Currently, now I am on a medication that does many awesome things, one being slowing CSF overproduction to eliminate headaches and to potentially avoid shunts having to placed… Life is such a wild ride.

Sunrises or Sunsets?

Take a moment. When do you feel most like yourself?
Most regulated, connected, reflective, or at peace?

Some of us crave sunrise. There’s a quiet sense of beginning, a soft promise of light before the day unfolds. If you’re drawn to mornings, you may have a circadian rhythm that rises with energy and clarity. Your nervous system might feel safest in the stillness before the world wakes up.

Others feel deeply attuned to sunset. That golden-hour exhale can feel like a homecoming. If evenings speak to you, your body may find calm through slowing down. You may process and express more freely at the end of the day when the world asks a little less of you.

There is no right or wrong.
Only the rhythm that belongs to you.

Both are beautiful teachers.
Both are invitations to notice how your energy flows.

So tell me…
Sunrises or sunsets? And why do you think that is for you?

✨ Body Check-In: What’s ONE Thing You Noticed Today? ✨

We spend so much time in our heads that we often forget to check in with our bodies. Let’s pause for a moment:

🌿 What’s one thing you felt in your body today?
• A deep breath you didn’t notice before?
• Tension in your shoulders?
• A moment of warmth, relaxation, or maybe restlessness?

Drop a word or an emoji in the comments to describe what you felt. 👇 No overthinking—just the first thing that comes to mind!
