I did the math and that thing people don't want to give up is costing them real joy

This swap is absolutely devine
It's bougie AF
And it won't make you feel miserable from the inevitable sugar crash you get from the 310 cal. with 35g carbs $6 caramel macchiatto (hi, that was me)

And now when I do grab a coffee at a coffee shop it's just a cappuccino (110 cal, 8g carb). I can't even stomach the other cups of dessert with a splash of coffee at this point.

In my world, we don't give up joy
We put in guide rails
And hey, if you want a sugary coffee from time to time then it gets to be a treat, rather than a semi-daily sugar bomb

I used to hide behind the lie that I wasn't willing to give up certain things for my health because I felt like it would take away from life.

Yet here I am, a much healthier and more expanded version of myself living a life of abundance and gratitude because I chose muscle, whole foods, quality sleep, boundaries, and supportive relationships.

Those are the big rocks I cover in my monthly membership, among others, but I break them down into small sized bites because trying to do and learn all the things at once is fu***ng exhausting.

ā€œI Just Want To Enjoy My Lifeā€ is the lie we tell ourselves when we want to avoid doing the things that will make life more enjoyable.

When we choose vices that don’t support us, we find ourselves facing these drawbacks for temporary enjoyment:
Bloat
Stubborn body fat
Feeling drained
Falling short of goals
Skin issues
Doctor Visits
Knee and back pain
Medications for cholesterol and blood pressure

I think we can all agree that these things don’t make life more enjoyable?

When I hear this phrase I think of three things:
Someone who doesn’t know how to balance the healthy foods with the ones they know cause issues
Someone who hasn't yet learned how to create enough healthy meals and snacks that are also wildly delicious
Someone who is denying themselves a truly enjoyable life by staying stuck in a sick, painful, or an overweight body they carry shame around in.

This isn’t meant to shame
It’s meant to highlight how much the health and fitness industry has failed us in overcomplicating things and giving us miserable advice on nutrition

I’m here to tell you, that not only does it not have to be like that
But that you shouldn’t live your life thinking health = miserable sacrifice

One of my differentiators as a personal trainer is knowing that telling you to just be disciplined is hollow advice
And that motivation is useless in their eyes only because they don’t understand how to use it.

Discipline without motivation is a cake without flour to make it rise (hopefully that was a good analogy, I just eat the cake, not bake it)

But I do get why they don't get it
They see people chasing an image,
Or trying to reach a number on the scale
And using that as their motivation

But the better term for that is a catalyst
Which is what this 5 day Mini Challenge creates
It gets a person out of inertia and moving forward
However, I add to this momentum
Because something needs to deepen before it becomes true motivation that carries the discipline

Understanding the problem helps us move forward
And we can dig deeper
Each day is a small shift that begins to change everything
An unraveling of who you were
As your stronger self takes shape

Discipline without motivation is like getting a new phone without a charge

Discipline doesn’t just occur without something pushing you forward

So, when you promised yourself a couple months back that this year would be differentĀ 

That you would finally stick to your health goals

You were riding in on hopes and dreams

But without real substanceĀ 

Because it was based on ideas, not identity

That’s the difference between people trying to be disciplined and those who are

Arnold Schwarzenegger preaching discipline over motivation

But Arnold is Mr. Universe

He long ago built an identity around being the big strong hulk of an action star

The Personal Trainer in your feed telling you similar things is the sameĀ

Anyone else have every oz of body fat go to their torso? If it weren't for training, I'd look like an apple with 4 toothpicks sticking out of it. Not ideal.

That's me. I am super lean EV-ER-Y-WHERE else.
But I left it alone while I was focusing on building muscle mass (our metabolic tank) knowing calories and protein were needed to build.

I decided over a couple weeks ago my body was ready to go into a mild cut. And it's responding phenomenally so far!

As a trainer, there's a pressure to look a certain way, but I decided to be open about the fact that I too am on this journey with a body I've been healing from a lifetime of diseases and overcoming muscle atrophy from my history of Dermotomyositis (muscle inflammation).

And remember, the scale is a tool
In my case, I wanted to make sure I'm not losing more than 2lbs a week, at most, because I want to keep that fat burning muscle I've been diligently building.

What has worked for you in the past that has remained sustainable? I want to hear your story!

Cardio doesn't burn body fat the next day after a run

Ozempic doesn't "tone" your muscles

Fat loss supplements don't... do anything really except make you wired or pull you into a multi-level marketing scheme

It's resistance training that gives you the ability to burn body fat, restore your metabolism, and build your dream body all while you sit on your butt reading the next day.

The rest is not just important, but REQUIRED.

It takes the place of adding more to your plate (aside from extra protein, please) so you only need to hit the gym 2-3x a week for a full body strength training session.

It gets your heart pumping
And if you're hitting at least 7k steps a day, you're going to start seeing results.

Go pick up some weights today, so you can sit in your a** tomorrow while burning fat at the same time. Thank me later.
